What a find. We happened on the Royal Oak by chance. Freya was such a great host that we decided to stay for a late lunch. Lovely food and great beer and wine list. Freya was the best waitress that we have experienced for a very long time. Thank you. We will be back to stay over next time. Cheers.

Booked the Royal Oak after a recommendation from friends. We were allocated a fantastic double room in adjoining property, bed so comfortable and a large bathroom. Large area inside and outside for a drink, we were lucky with the weather so sat out the front in late afternoon sun. Good menu choices for evening meal and breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed what we ate. Excellent country pub, with its sister pub one mile down the road which we also visited for a drink. Will definitely return.

Excellent Sunday roast with family, tasty sauce and vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Loved the Merguez sausages too as well as the shredded pork tacos. Desserts lovely also. Good service, relaxed environment. Thank you. The Orangery is a nice bright space and it is fun to see the open kitchen and pizza oven.

Excellent value , we stayed as a returning guest in a superior room. Very good bathroom, separate shower. Breakfast is ok, could be improved with a wider choice. No cereals only granola. Full English is good . Toast needs improvement! I think it was cooked in the pizza oven - only cooked one side! Minor issues. Evening meal very good, very good starters, good steak.

Lovely clean and tidy rooms in a great location. The bathroom has no window blind or curtain. The Duvet was winter weight for a hot summer night, not at all suitable. Check in was haphazard. Service at breakfast was slow and inattentive.I had to take the coffee pot to the chef to get it refilled. No cereals other than Granola and Yoghurt. The sour dough toast was like rock. Staff had to be searched out. It was not value for money.

An outstanding stay in a very lovely pub. Service was fabulous, food was excellent and the room perfect as well as being in a lovely quintessential english village. The welcome on arrival was first class and extremely helpful and this continued through service at the bar. Waiting staff at both supper and breakfast were both knowledgeable and friendly. We will come again.

Very disappointed that the staff were very unfriendly and made me feel quite unwelcome. Called ahead to politely see if the room was ready and said I was aware it was 3pm check in but just wanted to check as we were about to pass by so could drop off bags if so- and the man on the phone was very abrupt and just replied with 'it's 3pm'. That was it ! Not even a- we look forward to seeing you later or anything. Check in was much the same. No smile from anyone. Dinner - the man serving was so miserable - again not a smile throughout the whole meal. The room was nice - although bed not big enough for us. Felt quite tight. And the room was definitely big enough for a super king. The lady serving breakfast was lovely though. The only friendly person we encountered. Breakfast itself wasn't great- sour dough does not make good toast ! It's so crunchy it made my jaw hurt! A nice home made loaf of bread would make much better toast. Serving 2 small slices of crunchy sour dough toast on a huge wooden board is rather overkill! There was nothing suitable for children. They could really do with serving something more child friendly like offering some cereal. Especially as the 'toast' was not edible for even adult teeth let alone children's. Perhaps they think children are not welcome at this hotel and that's why they were unfriendly to us. Our children are very well behaved. We've taken the children to many hotels including the four seasons for afternoon tea- if they can manage to accommodate families there, then I don't see why the Royal oak can't. A shame.

This little country hotel is absolutely wonderful. The rooms are comfortable, food is excellent and the service is exceptional. I would stay here any opportunity I have. I have been visiting for the last 30 years and seen many changes, all excellent.
