Southern Cross Guest House

This is a delightful guest house with sufficient yet basic amenities. It had everything I wanted. I first fell in love with the place 13 years ago & this was my 3rd visit & was just as I remembered it - quaint & quirky. Brothers Andrew & Tim run the show cooking & serving delicious breakfasts & amazing cream teas.

We stayed with our family at this guest house and it was wonderful the rooms were very clean and had everything we needed Our hosts were very lovley and their breakfast was amazing should be 5 star we will definitely stay again

Hi, Enjoyed our 2 , separate night stays here , as we were on route to Cornwall, this being halfway from home and is an ideal spot to stay. The Hosts were very friendly & helpful, Thank you . The Breakfast was Delicious ,Perfect .👍

The garden is so pretty and welcoming that by the time we stepped in we felt at home. We stayed in the en-suite which had a loo and shower. The bed was really comfy and was made each day, unlike a lot of places l have stayed. Loads of tea and coffee with biscuits each day. I kept telling myself l wasn't going to eat them again, so of course kept scoffing. Although it is on the main road side there was no disturbance and it was double-glazed anyhow. There is a small seating area and if you wanted then tv could be viewed from bed, although we never turned it on, to be honest we aren't tv viewers. Breakfast was cooked to order and yummy, and always more if you wanted extra, although one and toast was a big enough plate for me. Plenty of parking and don't go out the entrance (I nearly did) it is a mini one way car park.

I chose it because I wanted and needed to take my lovely Basset Hound, Darcey Bussell, and they accepted dogs. Also it was central to the area I was house hunting in. When I booked, I was suprised no fee was required, and on arrival we were made welcome, as we were throughout our stay. I had a lovely freshly cooked breakfast, which was piping hot and extremely good quality and tasty and it was great to be able to have Darcey with me in the dining room. I would stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights. It’s a thatched building full of character. If you want modern, clean lines, this is not the place for you! Clean, though? Yes, spotlessly clean. Our room was a good size with shower room en suite. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. They also welcome dogs in the rooms and dining room which suited us perfectly. The breakfast was cooked to order and was plentiful. It lasted us most of the day too! Especially loved the marmalade, which tasted home made. We couldn’t miss the cream tea, which was excellent! Large home made scones with loads of clotted cream and strawberry jam. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and it was excellent value for money. Free on site parking as well. It is worth knowing that the guest house is on the main road through the village, which can be quite busy at times.

The host was lovely, very accommodating and cooked a great breakfast. Our room was clean and very ‘cottagey’. Exactly what we needed and expected. Lots of parking, and a good location for sidmouth. Only a couple of things, the blind fell down when we tried to close it, and the bed was very creaky (comfy though!). Would recommend a stay here :)

Unusual, characterful guest house right on the road. Lots of wonky, sloping floors, walls and ceilings. Friendly hosts and a plentiful cooked breakfast together with cereals, yoghurts and fresh strawberries on offer. Comfortable room and car parking on site.

Lovely welcome and an old, quirky property that was perfect for us! We loved the sloping walls and floors and felt that the house had real character. Breakfast was really nice - freshly cooked and just the right amount. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Devon.
