St Giles House Hotel

We went for celebratory cocktails which were really disappointing. Our Margaritas were served with no salt, no lime slice or ice ! The overwhelming taste was Lime cordial? It’s a lovely hotel and cosy bar but very limited choice of cocktails.

The beds were tired, the shower leaked into the bedroom and the bathroom extractor fan went on for 40 minutes. On the plus side great location, desk staff were very friendly and parking was secure

I recently stayed at the St Giles on a business trip. Couldn't fault the people who work there, absolutely everyone I interacted with was wonderful. Areas for improvement: one of the light bulbs wasn't working in the room and hadn't been changed, and the lighting in the room in general was very dark when trying to work. There were no accessible plug sockets in the room to plug my laptop in - again tricky when working. I ended up doing a zoom call sat on the floor plugged into a socket under a dressing table (not desk) by unplugging the fridge because of a lack of access. I accept the hotel is old but these are really basics that most people will need and so perhaps thought to renovating with the end user in mind might be useful. The TV didn't work properly for poor signal which is easily resolved. The water took a considerable time to warm up which is fine if you're not in a hurry to get somewhere. All in all, if you're going to Norwich for a leisurely trip and not in a hurry then this hotel is probably for you. If you need efficiency and the ability to work it's probably not the best choice.

Beautiful building but a lot of money for what we ended up with. The room was dirty and not well maintained. The bathroom needs a serious update. A shame because the building is beautiful but there’s clearly no money being spent on the upkeep. Won’t be coming here again.

Had to hunt for receptionist for quite some time, approaching 10 mins. Found a body eventually and receptionist arrived. Very efficient check in and service after that. Bathroom v basic. Breakfast not too good. Felt that manager was trying hard but some staff perhaps needed more training.

Good quality room and an excellent environment. Close to historic parts of Norwich.

I booked afternoon tea here for my friend’s hen do. There were ten of us and we were in the Maddermarket room. The food was excellent. The chef even came in to run through the different layers of treats. Whilst most of us wanted some fizz to drink, one guest asked for Coke Zero. We were advised that they only had Diet Coke so our guest said no worries I’ll stick with water. Ten minutes later the waiter arrived with two cans of Coke Zero that he had purchased at a nearby shop. It really was service and some. So it was a five star event for us all and thank you to our waiter for the day who certainly went the extra mile. Our bride to be absolutely loved the occasion.

The hotel car park is really difficult to find it took us ages dispite the additional instructions e-mailed by the hotel. As someone else rightly pointed out their instructions say to look for a red sign but indeed the sign is now black. Also there were drunk drinking in the car park both days of our stay. However once we got into the hotel I cannot fault the staff for its customer service, really friendly and welcoming by all of the staff my husband and I encountered. The hotel was very quiet when we went it appeared that only 4 people were staying there going by breakfast bookings. The room was lovely and spacious, good ammenities and clean. Bathroom was huge but tiles etc in need of updating as bit stained tired looking BUT all very clean so no issue for me. Overall a good nights stay a close to all the shops, bars etc.

Check in on a Saturday for a family Stag night in the City. Greeted by a very pleasant & well mannered member of staff who was very helpful. The room was very well presented & clean with everything you need for a short stay including toiletries, dressing gown, lovely white fluffy towels & Tea & Coffee making facilities. The room also benefits from a stocked mini fridge but as with any hotel across the globe these items come at an extra price. Also in the room were a nice large flat screen TV ideal for watching Netflix while getting ready to go out in the city. The bed was incredibly comfortable and tbh was the best nights sleep i have had in ages ! & the wife agreed as i didn't snore!. The following morning we headed down for breakfast which was included in the room price and was excellent!, great quality produce, decent sausages unlike most places & a good selection of cereals, juices. I opted for a full english which again was very good quality and cooked perfectly & served by well mannered polite & attentive staff. Check out was seamless & i have to pay special mention to Tom on reception who's level of customer service is of a level me & my wife have had in 5 star Hotels in Dubai before & a lot of city & chain owned hotels could learn from him on how to treat customers he was excellent so well done St Giles House on employing decent staff. All in all a lovely hotel with perfect rooms, great customer service, good food & at a price which is good value for a large city like Norwich. We have booked to stay here again in August while we attend a family wedding in the city a 100% no brainer. So what are the bad points....... well only one if i am being honest & that is the hotel carpark is a bit of a mission to find unless you know Norwich very well as its tucked behind the hotel down a few small side streets but hey your sleeping in a great hotel not a carpark.
