Just spent 10 days at Ardtornish, fantastic. We stayed in the main house though there are various other cottages etc on the estate ranging from old stone buildings to a more modern constructions. The area is quite remote , about 45 mins from the Corran ferry , so your nearest large shops in Fort William are over an hour away by car. The area is beautiful and very easy to catch ferry over to Mull from Lochaline which is about 10 mins drive away max. There is a shop on the estate that will supply meat and veg which is sourced on the estate eg venison. There is a post office and reasonable size shop in Lochaline where you can buy basic supplies so a trip to Fort William is not essential necessarily unless you want the likes of Morrison’s and Aldi. It is possible to hire bikes nearby and you can arrange canoeing not far away at Strontian. It was great having the experience of living in an old Victorian building. Like living in a museum. We had the Top Flat which used to house the servants, you can still see the bells on the wall used to summon the servants to the various parts of the house. There is a large snooker table in a room in the basement of the house. Location and overall get away experience I’d give it 10 out of 10. My only negative comment is the Top Flat sleeps up to 6 people but the lounge / kitchen area is a little small for 6 people, not v much natural lighting , the kitchen is not well equipped with a pretty un spectacular oven / cooker and kitchen layout is not good , partly due to the nature of the building . However the bedrooms are very good and the bathroom is good with a lovely old fashioned bath. If I were to come again , which I may , I’d look at probably another apartment or cottage with a better equipped kitchen / lounge. But overall I give Ardtornish a full 10/10 , a great place to recharge the batteries. Highly recommend.
