We arrived at Swartberg Country Manor after a long drive from Cape Town, jumped out of the car and threw ourselves into the swimming pool with a tall glass of deliciousness. Luckily, I had a friend who had arrived earlier, checked us into the manor house and had put in our order for dinner at Patat Restaurant. We lazed like lizards on the comfy pool loungers and sunned ourselves in the gentle late afternoon rays. We headed back to our rooms to get ready for dinner, and I nearly didn’t make it out as I flopped down onto my fabulously comfortable king size bed and struggled to leave it. Our rooms were luxuriously appointed, the decor stylish while in keeping with the period of the building. The rooms were all slightly different, some a little bigger, some a little smaller, some with slightly different views, but each one offered a unique, comfortable and lush feel. The property is surrounded by gardens where fresh herbs, vegetables, flowers and fruit abound. It is an oasis of calm and tranquility, the perfect place to feed the soul… and the belly! Dean, Dylan, Morne, Riaan and Leoni all took wonderful care of us and no request was too much for them. They even let me help myself to a tray of delicious figs straight from the garden (happy husband!). Make sure to take a round route when visiting Swartberg Country Manor and stop in at Kruisrivier Gallery to see the wonderful works of Roger Young, his pictures tell a thousand stories.
