My family and I just returned from our trip to Antigua where we stayed at The Great House Antigua from 9/25/24 to 9/30/24. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS HISTORIC CRAP. I repeat, DO NOT BOOK THIS FILTY PROPERTY especially when the owner Gabriella Howell will call you a scammer and liar based on your honest experience and review of her nasty property. She is definitely a slumlord who only cares about making money with no investment back into the property or her staff. As per her property manager, whom we saw twice, upon arrival and departure, the reason why the house was not clean or maintained is “the owners wants to maintain the historic feel”. Dirty rooms with mold does not represent an historic feel. Dilapidated beds where the mattress springs are lopsided, rusted, uneven without any form of support while sleeping is completely unacceptable and far from historic. After my first night sleeping in the pineapple room, I could hardly get out of bed due to the stiffness and extreme pain my back was in. The kitchen was filthy upon arrival, and yes, Gabriella, we know you had the staff clean it after we complained however, that should have been done prior to our arrival. Next time try to be proactive and not reactive when it comes to providing such an intimate service and then you wonder why we canceled the chef. The shower for the pineapple room needs a full remodel along with new shower curtains. The level of rust and lime scale is unimaginable and disgusting. A pair of waterproof slippers were needed for every shower I took. The door to the bedroom needs a workable doorknob not a slide latch on the inside and outside and a deep cleaning. I was not sure what was causing the stains on the inside of the door but it was completely filthy and disgusting. The mini bar/fridge was filed with mold and has not been cleaned for months maybe years. The windows had mold growing on them. The WiFi barely works, so go ahead and add an international calling plan through your wireless provider because you will definitely need it for 99% of your stay, airplane mode is not an option at this property. Now, I’m sure the owner will respond very defensively and dismiss my experience as a way of trying to get money back but let me reassure her, that she may want to stop being so defensive, rude and accusatory and actually show empathy and understanding to our experience and improve the property, because the pictures below don't lie. You CANNOT be in the service/hospitality business and refuse to take criticism from your guests, that type of attitude will surely not bring the level of success you so desire. On a positive note, the landscaping and views are beautiful and very relaxing. Mara was also very nice.

This place is HORRIBLE! DO NOT BOOK. I am literally writing this review from the airport. The owner Grabriella Howell only wants your money. For starters there the welcome was subpar. While we can see how this place could be amazing it was not. The kitchen was dirty. The appliances were nasty with crumbs all over them. When we complained, that’s when they washed the stuff and removed it. The bathrooms were dirty. My family and I had to go to the supermarket to buy cleaning supplies. The cottages were cute, but the net over them already had bugs. The bathroom was infested, The bed hinges were old and lumpy . We couldn’t wait to go on excursions to get the hell out of the house, There were no massages or exercises, They never even asked using we wanted the amenities. Do not your money.

Excellent venue for a family gathering - a blend of modern and historical buildings and overall very comfortable for ages 1 to 91!. Lovely staff and excellent food: loads of fresh fish and Joseph's coconut shrimp to die for! Great location with everywhere we wanted to get to only 25 mins away

I can't tell you how relaxing this place was. You walk in and feel transformed into paradise. Lovely staff and yummy food. We stayed in the cottages and the pictures didn't do them justice- they were massive! With huge his and her showers. Can't wait to go back!

We visited the Great House in November 2023. This is a place that gets under your skin. In the best of ways. We booked a suite but were offered a free upgrade to one of the cottages that was well worth it. Stunning room with lovely views, a huge bathroom and porch overlooking the bay. Our cottage was beautifully appointed with lovely period furniture. We did miss a TV in the room it has to be said and the internet speed is not sufficient for streaming, but if you want to really switch off this hotel ticks all the boxes. The staff were fantastic and added greatly to making our stay such a personal experience. Thank you Mara and your team - we will be back!

I was tired of going places where everyone goes, where the purpose of the holiday is to get the best pictures for your social media, I wanted something real, something different and authentic, and this is what I got from the Great House! This secluded gem, hidden down a bumpy road, was everything you need to switch off, relax and leave the worries of the world behind. The hotel itself was the perfect blend of old and new, the cottage had the most comfortable bed to get the best night’s sleep, and the bed faced East allowing us to enjoy a spectacular sunrise from our bed. With only a limited number of rooms at the hotel, we experienced a very personal touch to our service, and Mara and her team were ever attentive to all our needs. We spent time strolling around the large grounds, and having a hire car allowed us to experience the most beautiful beaches, only a short drive away. No exaggeration to say, this was a holiday of a life time! Thank you so much, everyone at The Great House! Moseem – 24.11.2023

We stayed in a Garden Cottage at The Great House for a week in November, and we have never experienced such a wonderful holiday. It was so difficult to leave! From the moment you arrive you will completely switch off. We honestly felt as though we had been taken away from the hustle and bustle of normal life and placed in complete and utter tranquility and paradise. The accommodation is so special, different and unique. A real home from home. You are treated like family, something you just don’t get in large hotel chains. If you are looking for peace and relaxation in beautiful surroundings, The Great House is for you. We hired a car and soon realised that it is also located in one of the best areas (in our opinion) with Long Bay (the most beautiful beach ever with crystal blue sparkling water) within a 10 minute drive. If I had to sum up our experience in one word it would have to be ‘Shangri-La’ - a faraway haven of idyllic beauty and tranquility. Thank you to everyone at the Great House for making this a once in a lifetime holiday… Jess and Moss xxx

We had great expectations of our stay at The Great House but sadly none of there were fulfilled. Upon arrival a buffet lunch had been arranged which consisted of a platter of dry sliced bread, one plain bowl of pasta, one bowl of ham salad - to feed 14 hungry people - not acceptable - food went downhill from there for the rest 1 week stay. The house is in dire need of some TLC - such a shame as it has huge potential. Bathrooms and kitchen in need of update and deep clean. One of the bathrooms had no hot water for the entire week. The pool bar was just a dumping area and not utilised to full potential. We are bewildered that it is advertised as a 5* Luxury Hotel and Restaurant. The only good thing were the comfy beds & pillows, nice linen & towels.

Where do I start , from start to finish this place ticked all the boxes incredibly friendly staff any thing you asked for they were there meeting requests, from the pool to the dining area and the beautiful huts and rooms all incredible. The pool area is just incredible this place definitely ticked the reset and refresh button being rather excluded means you really get to relax into your holiday , we had a chief cook for all 16 of us most nights and we had taxis to take us around both the beautiful islands the ladies were so wonderful and super accommodating to all of us. Brilliant holiday Thankyou so much to the great house , we shall (all 16 of us!) be back that’s for sure !
