We stayed for two nights and didn’t expect anything different from the other accommodation options around the Hunter. A very peaceful environment and adults around which was even better. We went to have dinner at Esca and we use the shuttle service, which is very convenient. The breakfast provisions were generous and good quality. Housekeeping fast and friendly. We were very satisfied and happy to come back! Bed was very comfy!

Relax, unwind and explore. This boutique, eco-friendly little retreat was a very welcome break from the hustle and bustle of city and family life for my husband and I. Everything was easy, well planned and made for a great experience. Check-in was a breeze with the room code sent directly to my mobile and email, including directions and contact info in case we needed it during our stay. Breakfast provisions were provided in the room, and they catered for my Gluten Intolerance perfectly; this made the two mornings we stayed so very easy as we did not need to plan or even leave the room for decent coffee and our food. The welcoming sage-green of our room and large windows just created this cozy little oasis where we could watch the sunsets with a wine in hand. We also admired the morning mists on the mountains, the wildlife in the vineyards and the occasional hot air balloon drift past while we had coffee on the balcony. This little gem will be recommended by us to all who need some fresh air and to unwind from the daily grind - we will be back!

We found that The Lane Retreat is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay right in the heart of the wine country. The Lane Retreat is very new and very clean. The amenities in the room were great and the breakfast was quite tasty. The view is fabulous and we spent a lot of time just sitting on the deck watching the ducks on the dam and the kangaroos in the paddocks. The backdrop of the Broke Mountains is just stunning. It is very close to the Hunter Valley Gardens and speciality shops plus the local wineries and cellar doors. Came home after two nights here feeling totally refreshed. Highly recommended!

Beautiful new Studio Style accomodation. Very comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom is super modern with a double shower and the toiletries are great quality! Breakfast is included and the food is delicious! Lovely views, excellent pool and amenities. The landscaping and grounds are well maintained. A fantastic place to stay - I hope to return for another stay in the near future!

As the name suggests it is a retreat....and away from the everyday hustle and bustle is this simply whisper quiet, relaxing retreat. The place is relatively new and the grounds are getting established, however the cabin style accommodation is very modern and extremely well appointed. With the added touches of breakfast provisions for your stay, fluffy dressing gowns and towels for the pool our cabin had unimpeded views of the dam with swans, ducks, all manner of bird-life and wandering kangaroos. Perfect place to domicile while doing a little wine tasting in the Hunter Valley. We would gladly stay there next time in Pokolbin. Quite simply, we loved it.

Very Good

It’s new so everything worked. Liked the keyless entry. Property send us the key code around 2pm day of arrival. Very tranquil overlooking the vines and hill in the distance. Breakfast was good but had no milk on the first day, and the staff didn’t replenish the opened muesli. The room was clean and airy. Good sized bathroom

The Lane Retreat is the perfect weekend getaway in the Hunter Valley wine country. The Lane Retreat’s secluded boutique lodging offers the idyllic place for the ultimate Hunter Valley getaway, drawing on its rural surrounds, cozy buildings, ample activities such the Bimbadgen Cellar Door which is only moments away for delicious wine tasting from the renowned award winning Bimbadgen wine cellar. The pool is a stunning outdoor oasis and the studio retreat rooms are spacious, peaceful and tranquil. With uninterrupted views over vines, fig trees and red volcanic soil to the Barrington ranges, the country location is restorative and relaxing. There are an array of stunning restaurants nearby to choose from including The Lane Retreat’s signature restaurant, Esca which showcases the local Hunter Valley produce. It was an amazingly relaxing, fun weekend.

Sadly we will look like the odd ones out here with our poor rating. So we should start by confirming most of the positive feedback that has been made by other reviewers ie great views, yummy breakfast provisions, well appointed rooms. Unfortunately there were some basic flaws that spoilt our stay at The Lane retreat. We stayed for 3 nights. Our room wasn't serviced for the whole period of our stay. Instead we had 2 friendly housekeepers knock on our door asking if we needed fresh towels or milk etc. They told us how busy they were and made no offer to service the room. Each day we'd go out for a few hours, hoping to come back to a nicely refreshed room, but bed was never made, bathroom never mopped, floor never swept - nada! The window in our room was locked and couldn't be opened. The sliding door in our room had to be closed during the night to avoid wildlife intrusions. There were no insect screens. So we had to sleep in an unventilated room. The hot weather also forced us to use the aircon flowing directly over the bed - resulting in a dry, sore throat on waking. We did ask if it was possible to be moved to a room with an open window and fly screen - but nothing was done. The woman who answered the phone on the 3 occasions we called (about the booking, housekeeping and ventilation) was very abrupt and rude. We were made to feel that we were an inconvenience for her. This business has so much potential - but the basic flaws of hospitality need to be fixed. We were there to celebrate a birthday at Esca Bimbadgen restaurant - a really enjoyable experience! Unfortunately our stay at the Lane Retreat will be memorable for the wrong reasons.

Really appreciated the quality of the roomy accommodation, they have gone all out to ensure a great stay in all respects. Its all so new and clean and fresh and a perfect couples retreat for privacy and yet an outdoors feel. Unfortunately it was cold and wet on our stay so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool but the mist covered mountains was a great outlook to sit back and enjoy from the room. So nice and quiet. Our car GPS could not locate it, but Maps on our phone was ok. As stated in some other reviews there are no shade trees if you wanted to hang around outside which is a little sparce but its a perfect base for the wine area. I am looking forward to a second visit.
