This hotel is in a beautiful setting, but the rooms are aged and in desperate need of a refurb. Staff at reception were lovely and special thanks go to Lincoln, Sophie, and Barbie for their hospitality and assistance when it was needed. Breakfasts were disappointing with no variety and very limited. Im not sure what other food options might be available in this town so I guess they can serve whatever they like - and do! However, the highlight of breakfast was being greeted by the gorgeous Abbey each morning who went out of her way to be warm, helpful, pleasant incredibly professional. By contrast there was Sandra who went out of her way to be the absolute opposite and this tarnished what would have otherwise been a pleasant stay. The restaurant gets very busy and is full of large groups. Despite being a hotel guest for the entire week, large groups were prioritised and I could not book a table for one for any but the last night. With no room service I had no choice but to eat out of polystyrene in my room with bamboo cutlery and was not permitted to take salt and pepper to my room! I also had to wait up to an hour for my meal and surrounded by loud, drunken guests when all I wanted to do was rest after a long work day. So if you’re a sole female business guest here, don’t expect to be considered of any value by some of the staff in F&B. I’d like to also thank Augustus who worked hard and was so friendly anytime we met. I can overlook many things when the service is good but it n this case, am pretty disappointed with the rude service received from Sandra and whoever the Irish guy behind the bar was who clearly hated his job. Allow Abbey to be in charge of F&B and I’m sure the standard might be lifted! Her service was gold standard and the very least a guest might expect when paying such exorbitant prices for accommodation and food here.
