Our mission for our 11-night stay at the Colonna Resort near Porto Cervo was quite simply to relax. In summary, mission accomplished. Three main reasons why our objective was achieved are as follows: 1) Location The transfer to the hotel was relatively short from Olbia. We were close enough to be able to explore many areas around Sardinia should we have chosen to. Quite simply however we kept our stay straightforward, we used the shuttle from the hotel sometimes during the day, and visited Porto Cervo centre either to walk, have a drink, take in the scenery, or have a bite to eat. The shuttle service in that respect worked perfectly well for us and our thanks to the driver who was very friendly and to Franco on Concierge for help in coordination. The fact that the hotel is situated in large landscaped grounds with multiple saltwater pools and a mix of lounging areas to relax in or out of the Sun meant that aligned to our objective to relax, we were able to achieve this comfortably. In addition our room balcony with sea view enabled us to return to our private environment to take in the scenery or take some time out of the Sun should we choose to in a climatised area. At the pool and private beach the Salvataggio team including Gabriele, Giacomo and Alessio and the poolside bar team including Tomas and Gonzalo are a great asset. We found them friendly and accommodating, again making us feel at ease in their company. And watching the tortoises navigating the grounds! 2) Team Colonna From the moment we arrived to the point that we left the Colonna Resort, we found each member of staff an absolute pleasure to engage with. For example, Marco and the food and beverage team in the terrace and Pagoda restaurant were excellent, in particular Lucia, Candela, Francisco, Nicholas, Gianluca, Luciana, Alvise, Erik. They also provided a fun musical background to relax to at lunchtime. 3) The cuisine We took a decision to stay on a half board basis at the hotel, meaning that we were dining each night in the restaurant as well as Breakfast. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed that immensely. We were absolutely delighted with the team that we mainly engaged with during our time in the restaurant in the morning and at dinner. We felt that the restaurant team overall went above and beyond to make us feel relaxed. Particular thanks go to Guilio, Lorenzo, Willy, Roberto and Luca. Guilio made us feel very welcome from the outset so a huge thank you to him. Vanessa was beyond excellent as our main restaurant lead. Vanessa’s professionalism and product knowledge and confidence in dish recommendations was outstanding. We hope she is recognised by the Hotel Management as the asset that she is. There is of course much behind the scenes in the kitchen we did not see first hand - what the cooking team do enables the service team to deliver, so our thanks to them. In summary we had a great first experience of Sardinia, primarily due to the staff at Colonna Resort.
