The G.A. Palace is a great boutique hotel property located within walking distance of many restaurants and attractions of Porto. The property, from its rooms to its lobby to its pool area, feels luxurious in a relaxed, understated way. My room was large and extra-comfortable. The staff attending my room did an excellent job keeping the room in pristine condition during my 4 night stay. The lobby/front guest staff were always helpful with recommendations. I was able to book a great last minute wine tour with their help. My favourite things here were the amazing breakfast each morning downstairs, the relaxing pool/spa area, and the large-sized room. I would definitely want to stay here again and again. Kudos to the great team of staff working to make G.A. Palace such an enjoyable experience.

At the end of a week-long stay of rainy days, my daughter and I were both wet and cold from that day's rain, and walking from the apartment we stayed at while my daughter attended a conference. We checked in too early to get our room, but the staff did their best to accommodate us and get us into one sooner. We were so grateful to be able to take off our soaking clothes...and delighted to find a tiny carafe of port wine for us to enjoy upon entry. The room was a tiny studio but very well-appointed and cozy, and in a great part of Porto close to good restaurants and sights...all within walking distance. The staff was absolutely terrific. This was a lovely finale stayed to our week-long rainy visit to lovely Porto.

About two months ago, I happened to see the promotional video of the hotel's opening, and then decided to walk around in Porto and booked this hotel specially. Our room is on the top floor. The balcony offers a beautiful view of Porto. The lighting design is relatively dark in the evening, which makes people very relaxing and sleepy. The bathroom accessories are great, and the towels seem to have a slight caramel smell. Full of comfortable experience. Will choose to stay in Porto next time.

We stayed here in May and the owners/managers were delightful and our stay could not have been better; small rooms in the guest house itself, but clean and well managed; very helpful. We just returned from another stay September 20 to the 25th, and because the rooms had been small and a bit loud on our previous stay, we rented the apartment which was down the street a bit but not far. It was a nice size and the view was spectacular, but it was dark and pretty run down by American standards. There were places where water had leaked in and damaged the ceiling and walls, and when we walked in, the person from the guesthouse apologized that the door to the terrace had jammed shut so badly that the glass in the door had broken; there was a crack all the way across and water was coming in and puddling inside the door. I should have realized then what was happening - heavy construction next door and the house adjacent was being demolished. Apparently, the ground had shifted and the terrace end of the apartment was affected. But there was another door to the terrace that worked, so we did not say anything as we were busy with business in Porto. Saturday and Sunday were fine if you don't mind no air conditioning, loose faucets in the kitchen, water damaged walls, mold in places and grease in the kitchen fan, etc., but not terrible. THEN Monday hit: at first it was just some trucks outside, but then the actual demolition began and the entire place literally shook and vibrated to the point that pictures on the walls shifted and the door on a clock on the wall flew open. Dust was everywhere and I did not feel completely safe being on a cliff in an old house with this going on next door. But we only had Monday and Tuesday to complete our business, and I really did not want to go back to the guesthouse and the small rooms. The noise was so very bad that we were glad to be away for most of the day, we could not use the terrace because of the dirt and dust, and all the floorboards on the terrace had shifted and split. We went out once to look at the demolition next door, and when I sat down the chair went through the floor. It was not a good experience and we went to tell them about it at the guesthouse before we left at 8:00 in the morning. The door was locked and even though it says you can ring the bell, no one came. I emailed the guesthouse and they basically said it wasn't their fault there was construction being done, so too bad for us. I told them that they should tell potential renters about the actual conditions and that this may affect what is supposed to be a quiet and enjoyable stay in Porto. I asked for 2 nights credit which I thought was a good compromise, and got the same reply: we can’t control everything so pay up. Granted we should have said something on Monday, but barely had time to get done what we needed to get done and did not have time to move everything for one remaining day. But the new management does not seem to care

Sadly this place did not live up to its 5 Stars. Location: Too far from Porto. In good traffic 15 minutes. View: Sea view across the main dual road and lovely boulevard Room: We took one of the two sea view rooms in the main house. Dismally dark. One slim window looking out to sea but against a far wall so no view really unless you stand and go to the window. Same slim window in bedroom with direct sea view. Great when awake only. Bathroom has same but when using need the blind down, do no view. The ‘unique’ shower looks directly across to the next property. Again, blind down. The best part was absence of beside tables. Nowhere to put items and no light switch. This was about one meter above you where a shelf sat across the width of the bed. Sofas, if you can call them that, would. E better placed in a garden or play area. Breakfast: Basic, no daily variety. The same every day. Eggs were awful and served alone poor things! No garnish, nothing. On two occasions we asked for grilled tomatoes and were told it was not possible. What?! So whatever eggs you order presentation was zero from ten and taste was the same. You can guess what the rest was like based on this. Best dish was poached eggs served in a bowl of warm water! Service was slow and without pleasantness. Room service: Appalling. Simple request for ice and some lime slices took 20 minutes and arrived with lemon slices. Two more attempts on different days. Ice and orange slice. After 15 minutes ice and a peeled orange presented in a cloche arrived. With a bill for €5!! Needles to say this was sent back. Housekeeping: Dreadful. No requests, and there were not many, were adhered to. Simple extra towel requests were ignored, or am overload of towels delivered Beware, turn down is attempted at around 16:30/17:00. So a huge disappoin**ent for a similar size cost. Much better places close and in Porto with lovely views. Try the Yea**an. Check out: Would have been nice to have been asked whether we enjoyed our stay.
