Hotel Royal Positano Reviews

Amazing accommodation. Beautiful friendly staff. Great food in restaurant & great breakfast. Rooms big clean & comfortable. Great water pressure in shower. The sea view rooms with balcony are spectacular and extra special at night. Bus stop right outside which takes you all the way down to town centre & then 5 min walk to beach & you take bus back up from same spot dropped you off all for $1.60 euros each way. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND & DEFINITELY GOING BACK!!

Amazing views right at the top of positano. Quite a walk to and from town. Hotel needs renovating but is very clean Pool is fantastic with huge sun lounging area Food is awful dont eat there make the most of the amazing restaurants like meditarraneo nearby

Location was a little further than expected and no basic amenities in room (kettle etc) but was overall a good stay :)

The most terrible experience I had in italy, starting from the reception to the insects in the bed and the mouse poop in the bathroom. Zero amenities, staff extremely unprofessional. The hotel is old and I guess it was the hotel to be at in the old times,has a good view on positano but the service is so bad to a point where I have missed my ferry cz they haven't handled my bags to the porter although I have informed them in the morning before I went out that they are supposed to hand my bags to the porters, so I arrived to the port and my bags were not there so my ferry left and I had to pay a taxi 200 euros to take me to Napoli as this was this last ferry of the day.

Amazing location. Amazing view. Had a great pool. Staff was friendly and helpful! Rooms were cozy! Our breakfast was included and it was great, everything you need for a great breakfast

It’s a good location but go get to your room is a mission we had to take 2 lifts long corridor walks and steps to get to our room Bus stop right outside the hotel though which was great for getting down to the beach

We were in room with balcony and amazing view. There are good swimming pool and we really like service in hotel. We just didn’t like dinner tasting menu, it was not tasty with much oil and fat.

It was nice to have a veranda. fantastic view

I wouldn’t recommend at least not for the cost. If you’re used to a certain quality for a comparable cost to this hotel, this is not it. Albeit, Positano is very expensive so I would just allot a bit more money to a better hotel. The pictures on their websites are very misleading. Our room (for our honeymoon) was very outdated. It didn’t seem to be throughly clean, just clean enough (found a couple hairs and a few ants). The thing is there are other hotels with outdated pictures but the rooms were much better than described. I wouldn’t say don’t stay here, but just check your expectations.

Worst experience ever, we booked from the states, arrived late at night to check in and the room the brought us to is completely different than what we booked. They took us to some nasty dungeon from the 50’s when we paid $1500 for 3 nights to stay in a modern looking room with a view. We are in the lobby now and the customer service guy just literally is laughing saying nothing he can do. They are saying just wait until the morning to talk to a manager. ******* is saying the trip is non refundable. What a nightmare!

Certainly not a 4 star. Very basic and poor quality of staff. On one occasion, despite the bar being advertised as open, with a queue of people waiting, the barman was upset that he had to put his dinner aside to serve. Pool bar largely non existent with staff playing table tennis. Chairs broken . Only thing going for it are the magnificent views.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! Run down hotel not a 4 star, Aunts EVERYWHERE!!! All over my room, in my luggage. Woke up with bug bites!! Worst experience by far!!!! The pool is run down, the chairs and umbrellas are old and broken. The hallways are all dirty and disgusting

Wouldn’t recommend this place and I wouldn’t return! It’s most certainly not a 4 star hotel by international standards but closer to a 2 star. Most facilities are outdated & don’t work. In our room, the AC, TV & safe didn’t work. The WiFi only worked for part of our trip. I’d expect facilities such as a tea/coffee machine or kettle and an iron to be available as a bare minimum - neither of which were. Bedsheets aren’t changed (we were there for just under a week). Complimentary toiletries are provided once at the start of your stay & not replaced. The in-room information leaflet states food purchased externally is prohibited from being brought into the hotel/room but given the hotel’s location/distance from the town centre, it essentially forces people to use the hotel’s own restaurant which is overpriced (where breakfast/lunch/dinner is not included in your room rate). In a nutshell, I’d recommend considering/staying at another hotel (of which there are plenty), in Positano. Also, at the time of writing, the page states free breakfast is included. It is not. It costs €20 per person per day unless it is included/added to your room rate at the time of booking - it is by no means ‘free’ though.

Was slightly concerned leading up to our holiday reading all the negative reviews but some are just ridiculous and should be ignored. You are staying in Positano - of course it’s going to be hilly - use it to work off all the pasta you’ve eaten! We had a lovely stay at the Royal Positano. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. All of them from the reception, to the restaurant, bar and housekeeping were brilliant. Our room was on the 2nd floor and whilst some say it’s like a maze to get around once you have done it a few times it’s simple - (again you are in the side of a cliff so it’s not going to perfectly level) Breakfast offering was ample and offered a small continental buffet along with some cooked options. Dinner we only had once but again was great considering some of the prices you pay in the town below. Room was just a classic room but again had a great balcony overlooking the town, comfy bed and ample storage. The bathroom is slightly dated but you are staying in Italy - not Dubai. Overall it exceeded our expectations after reading all the terrible reviews. Some hotels in positano are thousand’s a night and this offers a very convenient and affordable option for those wishing to explore the almafi coast. Book it.
