I stopped here before for a snack about 18 months ago and had the most amazing cheesy chips imaginable. Really nice chips, alternately layered with mozzarella cheese so every chip was coated. Blew me away that something so simple was done so well. Recently came back to treat myself to dinner and had a very different experience. I ordered a mushroom pizza and the base was like cardboard. I’ve never experienced a pizza like it before. I didn’t think it was possible to make bad pizza, but I was wrong. The mushroom topping was more of a light garnish, not a topping, and cheese was in short supply too. Dessert was a chocolate brownie with ice cream and again I was bemused. The brownie wasn’t a brownie but it was chocolatey and spongy. I suspect something pre packaged out of the freezer and microwaved as it was piping hot. The ice cream was synthetic supermarket rubbish, not nice! In an area where wallings/lakes ice cream is the norm I was so shocked. I never eat this kind of ice cream. I did eat it but it wasn’t enjoyable at all and I left feeling hungry and ripped off. No point saying anything as the food I chose wasn’t complicated so I don’t feel there was any excuse for it to be so bad. They clearly don’t value decent ingredients and try to skimp as much as possible. The food certainly doesn’t match the imagine they project with the decor, atmosphere and service. It’s a shame as I’ve just moved close by and it would have been handy to use when I have visitors staying.

Met friends for lunch. I’d booked a table but the weather was so lovely we sat outside. We had the two pizzas, a side and a half carafe of wine for £25. The pizzas, were amazing, and huge, we had to ask for a box for the leftovers. Lovely, prompt service from a very pleasant young waitress. Only slight criticism is that some corners of the patio could do with a sweep a s the wind has blown bits of litter under the tables. Fantastic value for money. (Ps we’ve had the two fish suppers for £19 in the past and that was yummy too!)

Came for food, ordered pizza to the table, service was terrible. Pizza came tasted like a frozen pizza gone wrong. And then two pizzas didn’t even turn up. Mocha was unreal but apart from then 0 out of 10. Not sure what was going on wasn’t even busy plenty of staff just clueless.

We arrived as a group of 13 for food and drinks. A young lad served me at the bar, very friendly and professional. We went for a second drink and to order food. The girl behind the bar was very unprofessional and rude not making eye contact and talking at you instead of to you. Nevertheless I ordered food alongside two others from the party. No problem. Some more of our group went to order food and were told they were not taking food orders even though some had already ordered. Some customers after us had their food orders accepted When a member of our group went to ask why she then said I have just changed it back to accepting food orders. We are a group of professionals and found the girls customer service and attitude not acceptable. We were all polite at all times. Maybe a bad day. All the young waiters were lovely outside. There was another party of 12 but it certainly wasn’t too busy. Came away very unimpressed.

I have stayed in the smaller and larger doubles in the main building, but can't comment on the cottages. The rooms were always spotless, comfortable and well kept. The restaurant has a smallish choice, which they change periodically and I would give that a 4 out of 5, but their breakfasts are a solid 5, I can't remember a better breakfast in the UK, and I stay in similar places on a regular basis because of my work. I don't know where they get their staff from, but they should keep it secret, I genuinely cannot ever remember staying in a more pleasant, friendly and hospitable establishment in all of the time I have been out and about in the UK - in my whole life (66) They are an absolute credit to the establishment and make staying there a real pleasure. If you want to visit the lakes or are travelling up to Scotland, in either direction, then I would recommend that you stop over here.

We stopped here as a halfway point on our journey to Scotland and received a very warm welcome , We were shown to our beautiful room by a very helpful and pleasant young man who showed us where everything was and how it all worked. Evening meal was well cooked, nicely presented and tasted as good as it looked. Breakfast had a comprehensive menu and served by very friendly staff. Would most definitely come again as it is convenient place to stay and also good value for money.

After a day paddle boarding in the lakes we popped in here on our way home for a drink and bar snacks. It really is a lovely place, very open nicely decorated. We ordered 3 drinks and 2 bar snacks and they automatically added 10% service charge, yes it is stipulated on the menu but I would not expect this for a small order. We ordered chips and onion rings at £5.25 each and after waiting 25 minutes we were expecting the best chips ever. They were limp and undercooked and absolutely not worth the money or wait.

Food and service excellent. Choice of menu options really good. Rooms good size, bed comfortable, fridge in room with bottles water, plenty of tea, coffee etc in the room. Very convenient from the motorway but away from the road noise. Local walk details provided in the rooms.
