The Five Oceanfront was a pleasant surprise for my wife and me. We typically stay at larger all-inclusive resorts and specifically wanted to try a smaller one. My wife found this by Googling the top resorts in the area, and their larger resort in Playa was on the list, and she found this one by visiting the larger resort’s website. I don’t write many reviews, but when I do, they are detailed; I am particular about a lot of things and appreciate when others write with the same level of detail. We booked a trip for February, but a non-COVID illness forced us to delay the trip. The staff easily accommodated our request to push the trip out 3 weeks with no additional charges. Our visit was 3/18-3/25/21. We were greeted by a modern and stylish entrance. The resort is at the end of the road, with an undeveloped resort property next door. The “front desk” is a large wood table that, from our balcony, looks like the state of Texas, and is similarly large. “Live edge” wood tables are all over the place and in our room. We were on an all-inclusive package (optional at this resort and apparently, is available on a day-by-day basis), and our bracelets were colored string with a logoed wood tile (think Scrabble tile) with an RFID chip on the back for access to our floor and room. That was a nice touch compared to resorts that have plastic color-coded bracelets. The package included a chilled bottle of sparkling wine and a plate of fruit and chocolates in the fridge. 3 of each of these were stocked in the fridge each day: 3 kinds of soda, Sparling water, Heineken and Dos Equis beers. Still bottled water was also in the fridge (think glass coke bottles with water). We reserved a one-bedroom suite. The room was fitted out with a 5-cup drip coffee maker, a 2-burner cooktop, a combo microwave/toaster, and full-size fridge/freezer combo. A 65” (?) Samsung TV was in the family room and also in the bedroom. Unfortunately, the hotel software controlled the TV and changing inputs or using apps was not possible. That would have been nice for the couple of evenings we were in the room early. The living area had modern furniture, exactly as pictured on the website. Our balcony had two cushioned chaise lounges and a two-person jetted tub. The bathroom had double sinks, and a walk-in shower that had the best rainfall shower head we’ve ever had. Many places try, and most fail in providing nice fixtures and decent water pressure. Robes and disposable slippers were also provided. Plenty of room to unpack 2 full-size suitcases and store them out of the way. The sliding doors between the bedroom and living space were quiet to operate, heavy, and thick. This provided a good barrier for me to rise early and get some work done before my wife. I didn’t test the speed of the included Wi-Fi but it was plenty fast for the large files I access online for work. Wow! This is a perfect getaway from the city life. In the middle of the Jungle with luxurious commodities. We stayed in Balam Bubble. 🛁Waking up in the atmosphere of the bubble is truly spectacular. 🥰 The food experience for breakfast, lunch and dinner is perfect. Ximena and Esther gave us excellent service at the restaurant and made some delicious drinks 🍸. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. Don’t forget to jump into the cenote and pool. Having lived in the Riviera Maya for 13 years, I must say, this experience went beyond expectations!! 100% recommended.

From first glance the place looks nice and the rooms had very large incredibly comfortable bed, this is where the positive feedback ends unfortunately. Let me begin with the towels. After coming out of the shower I opened up what appeared to be a clean folded towel and low a behold a large brown skid mark or blood stain the size of an average sized forearm was on it. I complained at reception and asked for a new towel but nobody apologised or offered to take away the old towel from our room which seemed a bit odd. Secondly I was over charged on a taxi ride to town and discovered this after paying the driver cash and noticing the driver enter the hotel to hand over commission to the receptionist after they both thought I left in the lift to my room. After I got into the lift I immediately forgot to ask the receptionist for a plate and fork and witnessed this very popular “tourist taxi hustle” which I’ve had enough of duration my stay in Mexico. Secondly the hotel food was on the same par as economy class on board food 15 years ago. The rooms don’t have robes or slippers either and the floors are made of wood so the comfort level lacks a little bit for the price. The flies and mosquitoes were throughout the entire hotel and this began to be very annoying especially when trying to relax in any location throughout the hotel. The cleanliness of the place is below average and this is the finally key point for us. Luckily we only stayed for 2 nights due to Kiwi.com not paying Swiss International and we missed our flights. I high recommend not staying here especially if you’re a couple wanting a relaxing escape. It fitted the purpose for 2 nights only! I highly recommend anyone to go stay in Cozumel and hire an AirBnB. We stayed for 5 months and it’s worth every min. We still love Mexico.
