Dreams del Estrecho

Quark’s “Fly the Drake” expedition departs from Punta Arenas, Chile - not by ship, but by a chartered 3-hour flight that arrives on a gravel airstrip on King George Island. This approach bypasses the Drake Passage and its potentially turbulent waters. Quark's expedition includes one night before departure at Dreams Hotel and ******, in Punta Arenas; and another night upon our return from King George Island at the end of the trip. Dreams Hotel served the expedition team well. The rooms were modern, spacious, and clean. The floor I was on was quiet, and provided great views of Punta Arenas, both times I stayed there. There were sufficient front desk staff to address the needs of the 90 travelers who formed the expedition's guest list. While I spent one night at another local hotel (as Dreams had been fully booked for that night), I found Dreams to be a perfect fit for this expedition.

Great hotel. Beautiful restaurant and lobby area. We ate dinner which was very good. Breakfast was also good. No complaints. Staff great esp Joaquin at the front desk who helped me get tickets online for TDP Park entry. Coming back in a week and staying again. FYI the parking is out front on street. We found a spot but looks there us lots of free street parking elsewhere.

The older (original) rooms are very charming yet fully modernized. The only thing I might mention is the electric plugs being a bit pesky. Since we have phones, cameras, fit bit, Apple Watch, and CPAP, I had a converter plug that connected to a small power ***** and still needed to use wall plugs at various points around the room. The bathroom amenities were usual except for only body wash and no bar soap. Fridge worked well for our sausage and cheese with the wine we bought. The building being a wonderful mansion of old has part of itself as a museum which a front desk person gave a tour. And the storied Shackleton Bar is a delight. Breakfast is adequate with eggs to order your way. The front desk staff were helpful above and beyond expectations. We had multiple agenda issues with staging for travel to Antarctica as well as complicated contact issues with park and hotel in Torres Del Paine. We could never thank the front desk staff and management enough for making life easy. The location is ideal for walking to most places of interest and restaurants and museums. We would not pass up a chance to stay there again.

This place deserves 10 stars out of 5, its perfectly located, very close to the bus terminal, super market across the street, the host is super friendly, really lovely decorated place, PERFECT BEDS AND SHOWERS, good breakfast, luggage storage when you check out later, walking distance to everything, I don't think you can find a better place to stay in Punta Arenas. Probably one of the best places I stayed in Patagonia!

Spent two nights here and you definitely need to bring/buy bottled water. Out of tap didn't work even with a Brita filter. The hotel's restaurant serves a basic breakfast with limited options. They will fix eggs to order. A late lunch one day was excellent with a generous portion of salmon. It was quiet at night, but also unsure how busy it was during our stay. Small tavern down by the lobby was swinging at night. Imagine with exception of the one large hotel down by the port, most hotels in town are likely similar. Let's be real . . . it's practically the bottom of the world! Slept fine, that's the main thing.

When I arrived I was a little concerned since I just left the Sheraton in Santiago and this was a small quaint cute property but the room looked more like a hostel, there was no fridge, microwave or blow-dryer. Generally, I assumed that single room would imply that I'd have a king bed but it was just a twin. Ok, the positives: super nice staff, I asked if they could store my food since I didn't have a fridge and they were happy to accommodate. The breakfast was included but limited hours 7-9am however they offer to pack a lunch if you have an early exit and I utilized that on most days that was very nice. The staff was super friendly which made up for the bed situation, they were glad to be of service when I asked for directions and recommendations. The property is very well located to all attractions. The wifi was great. There was always someone cleaning and they all look happy to be working which is pleasant to see. Knowing all this if you're ok with a subpar room I would support this business, if you need something a little nicer there is dreams by the water.
