Oban Historical Guest Farm

I don't have words to fully describe my stay at Oban. It was absolutely awesome and breathtaking! The room and the breakfast was just lovely. Thea was so accommodating as I expected to arrive late evening. Thea responded immediately to my messages and she went out of her way to accommodate my schedule. I can recommend Oban to anybody, business or holiday. I will definitely stay at Oban again when travelling down to Durban.

When visiting try putting yourself in the shoes of men, women and children who have lived there many, many decades ago. With their stories, happy and sad! Located off the N3 at Van Reenen, Oban Guest Farm is hidden in a small valley with an amazing landscape. It is easy to find and the hosts try to keep it as authentic as possible. The price is the best in the area for this kind of rustic experience, including options of self catering, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oban Offers you the choice of how you want to spend your money while you're visiting. The facilities reflect the kind of living of a specific era in this area, with amenities to ensure a comfortable stay (though out of your comfort zone and away from the hustle and bustle of city life). And free WiFi ensure that you're still in touch with... I was even able to find a balance between enjoying my stay and doing a little bit of work. The host, Theo and her team is warm, hospitable and responsive to the needs of guests. Always ready to assist or with interesting information. Food is delicious! Thanks Thea and team for creating an atmosphere where I could "swith off", find some peace in nature, solitude and learn a thing or two about farm life. I left Oban Guest Farm refreshed!!

We stayed in a family room with 2 kids. The location is amazing. Host is super friendly and accommodating. The new owners are renovating but the room we stayed in, had not gotten the upgrade yet. Having only a bath tub in a family room was not convenient. It was bitterly cold when we stayed there and rooms do not have heating or air-conditioning. Only main bed had electric blankets, so kids had to layer on some warm clothes for the night. Dinner and breakfast was of an acceptable standard. Cutlery is in need of a refresh. We didnt like the pink liquid soap in bathroom as it gives one the feeling of a public toilet facility. The host warmt and friendliness made up for any shortfalls and it is evident that upgrades are in progress.

Turning off from the N3, the gravel road "forces" you to slow down en route to Oban Guest Farm...giving you time to take in the beautiful landscape of this area. Turning into the farm road, you cannot see the farm and that creates anticipation as you slowly drives down. Thea is a wonderful, spontaneous host and I liked the warm reception. The room is what it's suppose to be...farm style!! And crispy clean. WiFi is available, but the "sounds of silence" and of animals and birds are therapeutic. Breakfast, in an interesting dining room setting, was delicious. Checkout is simple and seamless. Thanks for the hospitality Thea and staff. I had a great experience: a match between your authentic facility, excellent service and great price!! I wanted a RUSTIC experience and I got it!

From the magnificent scenery, that we couldn't get enough of looking at, to the scrumptious breakfasts and comfortable cottages, we enjoyed every minute. Thea thank you for making us feel so welcomed. Your warmth, hospitality, kindness to all animals and delightful sense of humour was touching . Together with the unbelievable affordability and generosity at Oban, Oban has crept into our hearts and we will most definitly be back asap. We made an overnight stop at Oban and discovered this delightful farm stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thea's warm welcome and all the information she gave us about Oban's history were wonderful. At dinner time she made a beautiful candle-lit table setting for us- we were celebrating our wedding anniversary! We appreciated her kindness. and thank her for making our celebration special. Both the dinner and our breakfast were delicious and Minnie's service was very good. It was cold and the huge fire in the Lounge was very welcome. We enjoyed curling up on the couches and reading our books - so relaxing. The views at Oban are beautiful and we would love to visit in summer time and spend a couple of days rekaxing and exploring the farm.

Oban is an authentic working farm in the beautiful surrounds of Van Reenen Mountain Pass where Guests are immediately made to feel welcome and at home by the wonderful hosts and staff. Meals are fresh and wholesome - comfort food at its best. Our pet-friendly cottage was a delight and our fur-children loved their stay as much as we did. This charming farm is a sanctuary offering a caring, forever home to a number of rescue animals. The love is a joy to see. A very special place - we shall return.
