The room they gave me was comfortable and had air conditioning, although it was decorated in a spartan way, no luxury but next to the pool. The food at the restaurant was much better than what I got at Reasons in Buca, which was the same every day. I liked the offer of exclusions that the hotel offered in the surrounding area, although expensive in my opinion. It is good to explore the surroundings of the volcano for two days.

After visiting the Volcano and hot springs, we popped in for lunch. One of the few buildings to survive the 1994 eruption, it is surrounded by reminders of that day along with the strong Japanese history from WWii. After Suzie and her crew put on a most wonderful Chinese spread, we were guided through General Yamamto's bunker (he was the head of the South Pacific forces)

I very much appreciated the very spacious homey rustic feeling. As a PNG local, I loved that there were two fans in the room to circulate the air especially at night. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of the township were my place of work is located for the adventurer. The hotel is also a five minute car ride away from Mt Tavurvur for those wanting to see an active volcano up-close.

A easy 20 minute walk from the port along Malaguna Rd (main St). We stopped in on the way to Yamamoto’s bunker. The drinks were cold and the Phoenix Restaurant menu is comprehensive. Asian styles, seafood and burgers. The staff are friendly, accomodating and the food is very high standard. Burger was great and the prawns amazing. Do yourself a favour and drop in and say hello to Susie and enjoy the ambience and the food.
