I have nothing but good things to say about the Raton Pass Motor Inn. It's a wonderfully preserved example of a motel you would see on the highway traveling back in the 1950s and 60s. In fact, it is located on the old road that was once US Highway 85 coming into town from the north. It's a mom-and-pop owned motel and the owners Brandy and Michael have done a great job in running and keeping it up. My wife and I stayed here for a night in August 2024 while on vacation in northern New Mexico. Upon check-in we were greeted promptly by Brandy with a smile. She had our reservations and room ready to go for us. Each room is set to a different theme, and we had the "desert room" full of paintings and pictures from the west. Even the bedspreads had a desert theme to them. Really neat. Nice, clean and comfortable room overall and everything worked well - the air conditioner, shower, bathroom, lights, etc. We had a nice and relaxing stay for the short time we were here. It was nice to finally pull into the comfort of the motel after two or three hours of dodging severe thunderstorms in addition to road construction/closures between Taos, New Mexico and Raton. While we were there, the weather was nice and cool with a few thundershowers in the area. A welcome break from the summer heat back home in Texas. I don't blame Brandy and Michael for packing and moving up here. My wife and I are Dallasites ourselves and this area is so much better than the concrete jungle that is Dallas. One recommendation for travelers is to make a reservation ahead of time if you want to guarantee yourself a room. The motel was fully booked the night we stayed. Overall great stay, great motel and great job. Keep up the good work on this piece of highway history!
