Spacious bright room with comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom. Concierge provided great local advice and breakfast was good and substantial. Convenient quiet location with a car.

This booking had been made for months and on arrival I checked in to find that my room had NOT been cleaned since the last occupant. Bedding everywhere, ironing board still out. Clearly couldn’t use the room - whilst the lovely receptionist offered a free dinner and that she would clean the room that really is NOT her job and would have taken some significant time. And yes of course this was the last room today so they couldn’t offer me another one. After a long drive from Inverness I just wanted to check in and chill out. Left with no choice but to book into the Travel lodge down the road and take a full refund to find another delay when the receptionist had to call the owner to find out how to do a refund. Having booked online with the travel lodge on arrival the room was great even thought they were not expecting me! Perhaps Rosslea a better check of your room turn around is required to avoid losing business.

I messed up my booking. It was no trouble for the hotel to change the dates for me. The place itself was excellent.

We called in to have a coffee this morning! What’s a shambolic experience “Not possible” to sit either in the conservatory or sea facing room. “Set up for this evening”. It transpired there were 3 tables set in a huge room, the rest empty. We were seated in an empty bar with a television going in the background. , overlooking a derelict car park. Staff were in desperate need of training. Everything brought randomly upon asking! Coffee arrived, no saucers, teaspoons, or napkins for the microwaved scones. An experience not going to be repeated or recommended, quite the opposite, in fact. A lovely location going to waste and not to be enjoyed by the paying guests. A school report would have read- needs to do much better. When we spoke to the manager - to be constructive, all we got in reply was “yip, yip, yip” to every observation.

We visited as a group of four, for my Grandma’s birthday trip to Scotland. Overall, we had a brilliant time at the Rosslea - the staff are such wonderful, warm and welcoming people that it makes you feel like you’re at a home away from home. Especially Jess and Dan, who we saw the most of during our stay; they really are members of staff that the hotel can be proud of. We loved the location, we loved the food/breakfast, we loved the staff, the rooms in the main were good but our only complaint is that the beds/mattresses are like concrete! All four of us were moaning and groaning that we were aching after sleeping on them - two of us ended up putting the duvet underneath us along with a load of towels to try and add some “padding” between us and the mattresses - it was painful at times to lie on them. Other than the mattresses, we really enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone (except perhaps those with bad backs ……) Thanks to all at the Rosslea for making my Grandma’s birthday one to remember!

Staff struggled to cope with wedding guests and other guests resulting in delays to requests and a very average dinner

My comments specific to the room are only for room 12 located on the second floor. That's the room we stayed in. The room and two twin beds. Both mattresses were years beyond their use by date. It was like sleeping directly on the springs and they were lumpy. I am not exaggerating. The toilet would only flush if both buttons were pushed at the same time. When we asked about the toilet not flushing, we were told the maintenance man wouldn't be in until tomorrow. Then the receptionist said to push both buttons. That worked. The bathtub didn't drain well. The water filled over our ankles when showering. The room smelled like an old hotel room and the window only opened a couple of inches. The service at dinner slow and though we ordered vegetarian Caesar salads, they came with meat. When we received the salads without the chicken, they consisted of romaine lettuce and croutons with minimal dressing. The garlic bread was delicious. I gave it a 2 because the location is pretty, but I would never recommend this as a place to stay.
