Many aspects of the stay were lovely, including the care for my wife's birthday and a room upgrade (thanks to Bon Vivante). However, we were disappointed that outside our bedroom window (room 13) there was a persistently loud air handling unit or generator that disturbed out sleep several times both nights, and when I raised it at reception, it was simple treated as a 'we'll have a look into it' rather than prioritising what was a real issue that left us upset. Secondly, we both had massages at the spa, and though they were nice, the whole experience was quite lacking in comparison to other spa hotels, where typically we would be offered a welcome drink, talked through our treatment, offered a post treatment drink and product recommendations or testers, lack of conditioner and products in the spa bathrooms, etc.. It wasn't really 'best spa in the UK' standard. This is of course in context of the very high standard cost, but when paying over £1k/day, one really does expect things to be near faultless and first class, and there are better spas in the UK (e.g. Ragdale Hall), and better value high class hotels that have spas (i.e. The Swan, Newby Bridge)
