Never in all my time on Trip Advisor have I written such a review like this, but I am so unbelievably cross with Premier Inn, their parent company Whitbread, and this hotel itself. At approximately 2.00am in the morning the fire alarm was activated during our stay. No evacuation was done, we remained in our rooms, and then after stopping initially, the alarm preceded to keep stopping and starting throughout the night until around 3.30am. My eldest daughter made videos of this. We got no sleep and the lifts were locked open for the night, so we had to carry all our stuff down 3 flights of stairs in the morning when leaving. I called premier in Guest Relations to request a refund as part of their good night guarantee, to be told by an advisor who talked over me during the call and would not let me speak, that I had signed up to fire safety so the alarm waking us up is exempt from a refund, and that the hotel said it went off once for 10 x seconds which is an absolute lie and we have video evidence. What’s more, IF this had been a legitimate fire alarm, then why did Premier Inn not evacuate us and leave us in our rooms? So the facts are, yes I want a working fire alarm, however, this was a technical issue with the alarm stopping and starting which is their fault not ours, which is unfortunate but should absolutely be worthy of a refund as it was going off through out the night, and the hotel have bare face lied about it going off only once, and then the fact we weren’t evacuated. I am really upset after years and years of using Premier Inn how I have been treated today, it’s really rubbish by them. I also cannot believe their defensive, rude customer relations staff - I’m such a nice person and I’m just not accepting this from them. Other points regarding our stay - the 2 reception staff were very nice so I want to say how lovely they were. The bar is a nice area. The hotel is located in the town centre, but the entrance is on an alley backstreet, in the dark we did not feel safe walking down here (other women said the same thing to us) and with reception located on the 1st floor there was no one to shout for if anything happened. This is not a hotel for families with children.
