From the minute we set foot in the place we knew it would be a good stay. From check-in to check out the service is first class. The inn has a cozy and relaxed feel and every member of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. We choose to dine there on both nights when booking and we are so glad that we did. The food was simply perfect and the team in the kitchen should be very proud of themselves! I cannot find any fault in the place and we will certainly be back. A lovely added bonus for me was that I found out that the beautiful Rezina was from Crete and as I am learning Greek I was able to practice with her for the weekend. We had high hopes due to previous good reviews, price bracket, and a feature in a broadsheet's travel section. Sadly we were disappointed by the condition of our room (one window was warped and could not be closed, the cupboard door could not be closed and swung open continually, the cistern didn't fill up, the room was cold when we arrived, the bathroom smelled of damp). All of this could be forgiven or set aside but for the manager's response which was 'oh yes we know about that' and no expression of regret. Meal service at both dinner and breakfast was rude and chaotic. On the plus side the food was good, the location is great, it had charm. But we won't be going back.

I'm used to staying in large hotels and for some reason I'm now getting into more discovery of smaller hotels, Inn's and B&B's.
You meet incredible people with loads of local knowledge and their businesses mean so much more to them than a large hotels staff.
This one is a little gem, really accommodating and helpful and friendly throughout.
Thanks for a great evening with my brother for a catch up.

Absolute gem for exploring the Borrowdale Valley.
The breakfast was very good and there was plenty of choice. The evening food, albeit a limited menu (which was fine by us) was delicious. If you’re lucky enough to stay Sunday night, the roast is probably the best you’ll have.
The team were all great, including those still learning the ropes.
We will certainly return.

We had an amazing time at the Royal Oak. It's all newly renovated and so nicely done. We booked a triple for us and our todler. When we arrived, they gave us an apartment instead which was lovely, our daughter loved having her own bunk room! The food is also incredible, especially the cooked breakfast, and the staff are so friendly. Our daughter loved chatting with them about all the cows and sheep she saw on our walks. The location in Rosthwaite is incredible for walks, a walkers paradise.
