This hotel has a rich NZ history. For that reason alone, it was an honour to stay here. But historical importance aside, this is a lovely hotel. We stayed in the cheapest and smallest room. But it wasn't tiny. It was comfortable and at no point did I feel like I needed more space. The room was impeccably clean and well decorated. Artwork from my absolute favourite NZ artist (Lester Hall) adorned the walls in the room and throughout the hotel. My partner and I did many laps of the hallways admiring the artwork, where Lester hall featured predominantly, but also showcasing other artists and historical images. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant downstairs. Would stay here again for sure.

Lovely old hotel wraps itself around you, its like putting on an old pair of comfy slippers Very welcoming and helpful reception staff Our room had everything we needed was very clean and nice and warm, important on cold wet nights. Fabulous location on the water but in the centre of town. We dined in the resraurant two nights and enjoyed the food although the prices are right up there.$75 for an average white wine plus a 10% gratuity . For all that the Duke is a place everyone should visit at least once.

Beautiful location with views across to Paihia and a good spot for people watching on the waterfront. Food was unfortunately underwhelming. Paua risotto was quite flavourless and paua was just chewy chunks. Mussels were average/small in size and we couldnt taste the coriander promised in the sauce. The saving grace was the Ika Mata. Nice flavours.

Every so often, you check into a hotel and you feel like you're coming home, even on an initial visit. The DoM is such a place. As we were given our keys at check-in, they also handed us a pint of milk, for our tea. How endearing is that? This place has it all: incredible waterfront location, classic comfortable interior, and a very helpful/friendly staff. We stumbled on their Matariki dinner, which was a landmark life experience. We'll be back

Spent 4 days here for a family wedding. Everything was great - Friendly professional staff Awesome food Clean, comfortable rooms. The wedding venue was perfect and over 100 wedding party and guests had their delicious meal served promptly by a great team. The big breakfast is worth a go, and a great dinner menu - all at less than Wellington prices. We will be back.

Feel very luxurious when staying here. The staff’s attention to detail and genuine hospitality enhance the experience, making every guest feel special. Room is spacious and very nice at all. Nothing to be bad! Everything is quite perfect and I will come back. ❤️

A beautiful setting and a splendid stay all around. The rooms are spacious (we had a balcony room overlooking the harbour), well fitted, with everything needed for a couple of nights stay. The room was uncluttered, with comfy chairs, good quality linens and clean. Perfect.

We stayed here on our 5 week tour of New Zealand in February. The historic heritage hotel lived up to expectations with comfortable accommodation, first class food and friendly efficient service. The free WiFi was invaluable. We had everything that we needed for our 2 nights stay.

We went for an evening meal at this renowned hotel. The food was good and reasonably priced. The mains and deserts were particularly good. The wine was good value for money. What was exceptional was the ambience and setting. This helped elevate the experience and led me to write a review. In addition to this., we were also super impressed with the service received. The staff were engaging, polite and efficient. The combination of all these factors ensured that a memorable evening was had.
