Sandburn Hall

We stayed here for a wedding. The room itself was prefect. (Family room) Large bathroom and very spacious bedroom area. We had a mini fridge with water and milk in, tea coffee facilities etc. iron, hairdryer. Unfortunately we didn’t think the beds or pillows were very comfy. Very large bed but it was 2 beds put together and me and my partner could feel the gap between the beds! Not what we expected. The venue is absolutely stunning! We had the best time. All staff were friendly polite and welcoming. The food was excellent. We had pork/chicken/beef over 2 courses then a cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely delicious!
Wentworth Arms

This pub has a four-star AA listing, but on current standards it needs a re-grade. Entrance to the bedrooms via the street is via a rotting canopy, unswept floor and dirty, torn carpet. Our room was clean - if you didn't examine the edges of the carpet too closely - but cramped, with an ill-fitting window that rattled in the night. The bathroom tiles were cracked and the only shelf to place toiletries was missing. The only availability for an evening meal was 5.30 or 6pm and breakfast was a not very holiday-friendly 8-9. The cooked-to-order breakfast was good, but there was no choice of fruit or yoghurt to start, just orange juice and boxes of cereal. The outside seating area was scruffy with containers of dead plants and some plastic flowers suspended from the trellis, with overflowing waste containers in the car park. This is no reflection on the staff who we found to be helpful and friendly and the place seemed to be busy with evening meals. But the whole experience compared unfavourably with a nearby pub that was well run, with excellent food and a lovely garden.
The HAM and Cheese

This trip to the UK, this is my favorite hotel. It really looks like the kind of hotel in classical fiction, downstairs is a bar, or a restaurant, upstairs is a few rooms. The driver thinks that such hotel conditions will be very poor, not as good as the hotel. In fact, it is not, it is particularly good, clean, comfortable, spacious and distinctive! The most unforgettable thing for me was that on the day of arrival, I came to menstruation, no sanitary napkins, and I was in a hurry, because there were no supermarket shops around, and the location was relatively biased. I booked this hotel for the next day by the Pickering steam train. I was eating on the first floor and told the waiter about my difficulties. I didn't express it accurately. The waiter went to the back and took dry paper towels, wet paper towels, and sanitary napkins and asked me which one I needed. I pointed to the sanitary napkins. She went to the back again and took three pieces for me. It was wrapped up and others couldn't see it. I thanked her very much, wanted to give her money, she didn't. I gave her a pooch she bought the day before yesterday and she happily took it. I was very happy!
White Horse Farm Inn
3.9/545 Reviews
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at White Horse Farm and will definitely be returning. The special offers they often have on are fantastic value for money, but we enjoyed our stay that much that we feel it is definitely worth booking even if there isn't a special offer on. The whole experience was faultless and was made even more special by Jacek whose hospitality seemed effortless and so genuine, he bent over backwards to ensure we were enjoying our time whilst continually serving us with a fantastic well priced gin menu. The room we were in was at the front which gave us fantastic views of the moors, the room itself was clean, modern and cozy. The food in the restaurant was of a high quality and the service very good. Breakfast in the morning was also excellent with a plentiful choice of options. All in all a beautiful period property with a cozy, warm and welcoming atmosphere fantastic for all occasions.
The Black Swan - the Inn Collection Group
4.1/583 Reviews
We usually stay at the Fairfax or the Feathers, but they were fully booked. We decided to try the Black Swan, probably shouldn’t have. The hotel is very tired despite the recent renovation - I can’t see where in the upper halls and bedrooms? The room was very basic. Bathrooms need updating, and in fact cleaning before guests arrive. We were very late to check in, despite this we had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned as it had been forgotten about, hairs, old water marks and tide rings - grim! Though the lady member of staff did apologise profusely and was very nice at both dinner and check out - a real asset to the hotel. A room bug bare for me was nowhere to hang longer items like coats and dresses. The wardrobe was for shirts and folded trousers only. I had to hang long dresses on the light fitting. Also there is no shaver/toothbrush socket in the bathroom. Such little things that would make stays easier. We had dinner, which wasn’t bad for ‘pub grub’ but it wasn’t restaurant quality so to speak. I’d add that the gravy and sauce were more like water in both consistency and taste. Pies were great! Sadly we didn’t get to try the breakfast (which was included in our rate) as despite being a weekend, there are no room-service options and breakfasts aren’t available past 9.30am. So Sunday at 9.41am, we had to trot over to a nearby café to have breakfast. This was very annoying as you can imagine! I wouldn’t recommend staying here with so many better options locally. Which is a real shame, as the food used to be so much better and I would’ve expected after renovations the hotel would’ve seen an improvement. It has not. But, if you just want pub food and you’re in the area then maybe give it a go.
Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa
4.3/569 Reviews
Booked the hotel mainly to use spa. Had a suite with separate sitting area which had a wood burner. Didn't need to use it because room was already cosy. Bed was comfortable but not much room either side for getting in and out. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and coffee machine provided, along with still and sparkling water. Only thing I didn't like in room was the glass door to bathroom directly opposite the toilet, but that's just my personal preference.
