My Senior wife, along with Senior me and our adult son, wanted to stay in the Historical distract, and in a place we would remember. We won when we booked the Pirate Haus. It is possibly the most unique place in the District, And it is definitely not for people who want a modern hotel atmosphere and amenities. It is old and still has a hostel charm to it. They tell you right off that it's not to everybody's taste. But it sure was to ours, for our brief stay. We rented the Captain's Quarters with its 3 sets of bunk beds and a Giant King bed. The room was very old and had a pirate theme painted on the walls. The room had its own old bathroom with a shower and bathtub. We also had a minifridge and excellent wifi. And, as advertised, no tv in the room. But there is a shared one in the building. There is a nice kitchen everybody can use, and a free pancake breakfast occurs every morning. The manager is a real plus, as are the volunteer staff who work part time for room and some board. Julie and Adam who man the kitchen are super friendly and make you feel welcome and right at home. No, it's not fancy. And, it's not supposed to be. But it was perfect for us. If we return to St Augustine again, there's no doubt where you would find us!
