Lovely hotel in a fabulous location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent food. Our room was exactly as per picture and had the sea lapping under the window when the tide was in. A nice range of shops and alternative places to eat to walk to nearby.

We are not staying at the Idle Rocks but each time we are staying in the village of St Mawes we love going to the lounge at the Idle Rocks for afternoon drinks and one of their amazing sandwiches, the best being 'Reuben Salt Beef'. Totally delicious and beautifully presented too. I love the scones too. A huge thank you also to Stewart and the whole team as they make our visits so relaxing and also the service is amazing too. The decor is just so lovely . See you later today! Kind wishes Angela and Geoff

The Hotel's location on the side of St. Mawes harbour provides stunning views. The rooms and facilities are as good as you may expect from a hotel with such a good reputation. The food in the restaurant is excellent thanks to the newly appointed Head Chef. The staff are attentive without being overly obvious. we look forward to visiting again.

Visited the Idle Rocks this afternoon (13.09.24) for a cream tea. We met with Stewart, Operations Director, he was an absolute delight to talk to and he and the whole team made us feel very welcome. Just such brilliant service and amazing Scones too. We have in the past criticised the Idle Rocks however meeting with Stewart and the team was a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to back again and again. Thank you all once again Kind regards Angela and Geoff

Had been thinking about staying here in the future. So we stopped off for a drink on a warm afternoon. From the outside and actually the inside this place is lovely. However there is zero atmosphere here, and their bar service leaves a lot to be desired. We sat outside and ordered a cocktail and a cider some olives and a bowl of nuts. A few minutes later it rained so we came inside. There were only 6 or 7 customers in the bar/ restaurant and at least 4 staff working and chatting with each other . 20 minutes later still no drinks or nibbles . When we approached the bar we could see our drinks sat in a tray ready to serve but no one was bothering to do it . It was only when we chased did they bring out the drinks. No nibbles ever came, and when we paid the sneaked on a service charge which we only saw after paying. So my decision is made I won’t be staying here and if you do, watch out for poor service and hidden charges

This is our 4th visit to this wonderful hotel. Fantastic service. Big up to Lydia, Liam and Dan the pen! And all the lovely kind staff. Beautiful setting, great food and a comfortable retreat from real life! Hey, its summer in a teriffic place. There will be noise... but NOTHING beats waking up and hearing the sea lapping below your window and drifting back to sleep, or looking out at the sunset/ sunrise from your room or on the terrace.. NOTHING.

The location and the terrace are outstanding / nice athmosphere - so far abt the convincing points. Otherwise….noise level too high in the room with harbour view…feels like a spanish tourist hot spot. Seafood in the praised kitchen was average / rather under average - Sole destroyed in taste and texture, a crime for everybody who knows how a well prepared sole can taste. The noisy rooms cannot be changed and if you want the location accept less quality sleep for the time of your stay but the kitchen should try an internal blind tasting and analyse how to seriously improve

Went just for coffee with a friend. Friendly welcome from staff. One coffee arrived spilt in saucer. Second coffee should have been decaff but was quickly realised by waiter that he had given wrong coffee to my friend. Replaced it. Cold milk for Americano arrived in a small cup - impossible to pour without spilling on table. Waiter replied you had to be quick pouring it and insisted it was a jug - albeit without a pouring lip! Service charge was added to our bill despite the bad experience we had. We asked for it to be removed and left quite disappointed in overall experience.
