I frequently travel for work and always stay with Marriott. This last stay has me questioning if that is best anymore. I book on my company card and use my personal card for incidentals. Upon checking in, I provided my company card, NOT my personal card. When I checked out, I asked for any room charges to be placed onto my personal card. I waited for the card machine to display the total (~$15.00) and inserted my card. The woman checking me out said she would make the adjustments I needed to my bill and send it by efolio. This is how I always check out. A few days later, I looked into my personal account and over $1700 had been debited by the hotel. I called immediately and the front desk agent (different woman than the one who checked me out) proceeded to rudely tell me this was my fault and it was IMPOSSIBLE that they could have made an error. She said I must not have given them my company card and that it was impossible to charge two cards with one folio. I asked for a manager. She said "You can talk to her but she is going to tell you the same thing I am telling you. Let me explain the process again." She continued on to tell me how she sets up folios. I again asked to speak to a manager since this woman did not care that my personal card was fraudulently charged almost $2,000. When I spoke to the manager AND provided receipts, the manager finally said there was a "gross human error" on their end and apologized. She said she realized the amount was the difference between paying a mortgage, rent, or childcare, but the money still cannot be returned to me for "5-7 business days." She said someone must have mixed up the cards when I checked out. I had to call my bank to make sure I am protected since the company retained my card data and used it. I was assured the manager would follow this closely, but the emails I saw simply asked for a billing adjustment without any sense of urgency or taking responsibility for this. And to Jerry, the cranky omelet chef who refused to make my kid a waffle because "they don't eat them anyway," I hope you learn some kindness from the other amazing servers.
