This is my 5th visit to the beautiful, "chocolate box town" of Sankt Johann in Tirol with it's stunning Bavarian style painted buildings, gorgeous shops some superb little bars (I'll come to those soon!), but we were also lucky to have quite a dump of snow during our stay, so the whole town looked like something out of a fairytale. My first stay at the Post hotel Austria. Couldn't fault it at all. Cosy, warm rooms (ours was very spacious) with a balcony, a great bar with good atmosphere, excellent boot room (toasty warm ski boots every morning), delightful restaurant with good breakfast and you don't go hungry in the evening. Evening dinner was a choice of 3 mains (chosen the previous day) but a buffet starter, soups, dessert and some fab cheeses. Mostly good, but just a few which weren't to my taste. We were well looked after by all the staff. Nice indoor pool. It's a shame the sauna's are all nude, it's really off putting for us Brits! Excellent location to the ski lift and Max pub (apres ski bar is literally 5 mins round the corner). Some great little bars all within 10 mins walk. Rogis, Huber Brau, Cubo sky bar, Michi's and the Wirtshaus Jagglback - all very friendly and worth a visit. If you're looking for alternative days skiing, catch the train to Kitzbuhel or the bus to Steinplatte or Fieberbrunn. Loads of options, don't just stay local, there's plenty of alternatives! If you've never visited St Johann in Tirol, it's a must - one of my favourite places in Austria.
