Hotel feels a little dated and the location was quite far from town. We also couldn't get Hyatt points because we booked through Trip.

Great stay and bed are huge. However the service of a particular staff was really unpleasant and the hotel system does not tally with my booking at all! Trip.Com mentioned breakfast for 3 pax since I booked the stay for 3. Yet the staff insist it was 3 breakfast a day for 1 pax and did not mentioned that there was a $ capped for per pax breakfast. She insisted me to pay and did not want to speak to trip.Com herself. Also, insisted me to call trip.com on my own since I booked through a 3rd party. Help was not offered! I have to spent 30mins to seat at the lobby , ruin our itinery for the day and managed this hassle! Horrible experience overall at mar monte hotel.

The hotel room facilities are aging, the service attitude is bad, the hotel room is small, the sound insulation is poor, and the price/performance ratio is very poor.

The room is small. The beautiful environment depends on the natural scenery and not the hotel environment. The front desk staff has an arrogant attitude towards Asians. The parking fee of US$40 per day is very unreasonable in a small town. There is no need for valet parking like a Motel in the parking lot in front of the room. They force the guests to keep their car keys in order to ask for tips. It's actually owned by Hyatt, so Hyatt deducted big points.

The coconut grove by the sea, the scenery is infinite, the decoration is simple, comfortable and clean, the service is in place, the warm and generous, the breakfast is rich and delicious.

Hallways and rooms are tired, and have a general musty smell. Walls are incredibly thin and there lacks a sense of privacy since you can hear your neighbors and mechanical equipment.

The rooms are very small with very little space to put clothes. The hotel could use some updating. No dressers with drawers. Great ocean view.

Creaky floors everywhere even in our room, old and odd smelling odor maybe because they allow pets. The heater/AC unit was huge and loud along with the train noise every hour or so at night. The shower water pressure was super weak, worse than sink water flow. This is not eco-friendly when you spend longer and forever to wash up. Windows were dirty with spider webs. We asked for missing remote for TV and waited over half hour so I personally went to front desk to pick it up. I waited while front desk tried getting a hold of housekeeping - can’t get a hold of them at 3pm? It was not worth the price per night and a mandatory $42/per night for valet parking along with resort fees and taxes.

We enjoyed our stay and will be returning to the Mar Monte Hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Lauren was extremely pleasant and professional. The room was clean and very nice. Great quality for the price.

Two issues: The mini wall around the shower meant it flooded the whole bathroom (toilet/sink area) every time I took a shower. I had to use all the towels to soak up the lake in the bathroom every day. The second thing is that the layout is terribly confusing with the different levels. Guests need clear maps as to how to get around the main building. I got lost way too many times - posting signage would help. Numbering the rooms differently might help also. L is not the first floor - how European, but how confusing for us Americans.

Staff really professional and friendly. Beds comfortable. Pool chairs old and terrible, no towels at pool. We had ocean view and street noise very loud until about 12:30am.

The pool area is great for hanging with the family and still seeing the ocean while it is too chilly to get in. The restaurant and bar was open and that is a nice feature.

Great location. Beautiful views. Older facility. If you want to be somewhere quiet this is not the location. Upstairs neighbor was up till 2 AM both nights. Could hear TV, walking and other noises as if they were in the same room. I talked to manager after the first night and they somewhat seemed familiar with this problem. Offered another room on the first floor but explained it would likely not resolve the issue. Said to call during the night to have them call the guest above us. Called that night at 2 AM and attendant did nothing. Checked out and explained we again had a rough night. They did apologize but did not offer anything to compensate for the issue. I totally expect this from a 2 star hotel. Just not from a 599 a night location.

We had a problem with our room - but it was satisfactorily resolved. The staff was GREAT! We had drinks in the bar (all great) and had breakfast in their restaurant (food was ok - but nothing to write home about). The rooms looked dated - and not in a "good" way. The bathroom sinks had "tip toe" drains which mean you have to reach your hand in (or something) to push the drain open once the basin fills with water - YUCK! I expected more from the rooms but the property has a nice location - across the street from the beach - but further from the "action" than I would have liked. Also street parking in non-existent so valet at $42 per night is a must....overall a mixed bag.
