Hotel Solar BOM Jesus

Booked this place for 2 nights, total including breakfast £119. I was just out of hospital in Portugal having operation for stomach cancer. Before flight home to England. Put me and my son in horrible room small window facing a wall. Complained so changed room. I had medication from hospital that needed to be kept cold,. The fridge in the room did not work, ask for replacement fridge, which arrived next day,. Not kettle for making tea/coffee, very basic room Sorry we didn't book better hotel in area for cheaper price When checking out, reception staff charge me for , water and bedroom tax, I said I haven't had any water, and Agoda price of £118 was total. No extra to pay. Staff insisted I had to pay, I was in so much pain still with operation for cancer, I just paid extra rippoff charge they ask for I only way I can get some Solis on this hotel is to warn people to avoid this place like the plaig and not to book here. The pictures look lovely, but trust me not the same when you arrive there (scam). Left a bitter taste with me. Horrible old staff, just want your money and not polite about it. I had cancer removed from my stomach, and was glad to remove myself from this so called hotel ( what a joke). Should hang there heads in shame.
Vila Gale Santa Cruz

Travelled with my husband and adult son, 2 rooms, one week all inclusive and had a fabulous time. We chose this hotel as we wanted a short transfer from the airport, and it didn't disappoint! Even the shuttle transfer only took 10 minutes, 5 minutes by car. We had an early flight, rooms are available from 3pm , but after a quick check in at reception we were invited to have lunch and then call back to see if our rooms were ready... we waited a short time, but by 2pm we had both rooms available... the staff throughout the whole week were friendly and efficient. Rooms: We had a sea view, beds were comfortable (although a bit squeaky due to mattress protectors) , air conditioning worked great, TV channels fine with some films available, wifii good, mini bar (chargeable) we didn't use. A free safe, no kettle in the room (we took our own) but apparently available if you ask. Pool: indoor pool and spa (we didn't use) Outdoor pool cold, but fabulous! Towels available on all inclusive, just ask at the Spa or reception. Transport: We booked the hotel's free shuttle into Funchal which leaves at 10 and comes back at 5.30pm... book early so you don't miss out , it's a mini bus so spaces are limited. Having said that - the buses are frequent and reception were really helpful and provided us with a bus timetable... In the opposite direction Machico is lovely with a manmade sandy beach and some nice bars and bakeries, 12 euros by taxi and about 3 euros on the bus. All Inclusive option/ food: I would say that AI guests were in the minority.. lots of different nationalities (which we loved) Lots of cabin crew staying too, a real variety of guests..... in some ways it felt like a conference hotel, but worth it's 4 stars... we enjoyed the food. One A la Carte meal per 7 days on all inclusive and it was really good! Be sure to book early, although off season, we didn't have a problem. You get a menu and select your choice the day before... excellent! Drinks were of high quality.. one cocktail 'special' per day , plus beer ,wine, local spirits etc... Lunch time we preferred the snack bar... hot dogs, salads ,toasties , fries etc.. all inclusive cake or ice cream including magnums, Cornettos etc! A shout out to all of the bar and restaurant staff, and the reception too! Sandra in the restaurant... always a smile and a chat, made our day! Entertainment: Not a lot going on during the day, which suited us just fine, live entertainment most night's which we enjoyed. Other: We hired a car from reception.. there is a car rental close to the hotel, which might be cheaper, but for ease and peace of mind booked from the hotel... delivered to the underground carpark (7 euros per night to park) and left there afterwards. Area: We really loved Santa Cruz, as we like traditional and quiet.. there isn't a lot there, just a few restaurant's and bars, but it has a lovely atmosphere in spite of the air traffic. We had a visit to the local dentist
Santa Cruz Village Hotel

This was our second visit this year. A small village hotel located in the centre of the resort and quite near the the airport. The hotel was just perfect for us. Our room had a sea view and great balcony where we could sit to read and drink a glass of wine in the evening. The rooms are comfortable and the bathroom roomy and modern. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was fabulous and the restaurant had a great outdoor area. Although we went in November and March, the pool was great and we swam on both holidays. Can't wait to return.
Hotel Riu Madeira - All Inclusive

A great place if you want a relaxing holiday with the option to explore Madeira. All the staff were very accommodating and friendly. I think a lady called Paula checked us in who was lovely and one of the chef's, Bibash was super helpful in cooking me some more well done steak (without me asking) as I am pregnant, this was a nice touch. I think some of the reviews on this page are really strange, if you do literally any research on this hotel you would know it is not in an area where there is much going on - you could walk to a few restaurants/bars if you wanted to, but I'd imagine the majority of people make the most of the all inclusive offering. Madeira doesn't have beaches anyway and if you wanted to be more in the thick of it I'd recommend staying in Funchal itself. The entertainment is on every night and is exactly what you might expect, nothing out of this world but perfectly palatable and nothing too loud. It is inside so easy to get away from it if you prefer to have a drink without watching it. We hired a car for 2x days and did some fantastic exploring of the island, as well as using the public bus (as we had to leave early) which was super cheap, and then the hotel shuttle back from Funchal. We did a dolphin/whale watching tour with the company 'Magic Dolphin' which was really nice and we did see a lot of Dolphins. We visited one of the tallest peaks in Madeira (take a coat, the weather up there is totally different) as well as the natural sea pools to swim in and a couple of waterfalls. The roads are very well maintained. Food was great. I find the buffet experience a little repetitive but there was a lot of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't understand the comment about things being smothered in garlic.. the restaurant you can visit for one night is well worth a visit, really enjoyable. Top tip, ask for a coffee at the bar on the way to breakfast rather than the instant coffee/self-service machines if you like slightly nicer coffee. Room was lovely and clean and we had an amazing sea view, close to the main restaurants and with a shortcut to the pool through a fire exit door (great for me being pregnant). We are in our 30's - I'd say Madeira as a whole is possibly more popular with people older than us, but the hotel had plenty of atmosphere. Again, not sure why people complaining about a lack of activities for kids haven't read previous reviews.. A fantastic stay, would definitely recommend.

This hotel complex is beautiful!! It is clean, safe and the views from every corner are stunning. It started off a bit rough, as we arrived at 11pm and unfortunately only Luis was on duty. He really needs customer service training. We upgraded to a seaview room at a higher price so upon checkin I asked if our room was seaview. His reply was if “that is what you booked then you got it”. Our ac was not working and the room was boiling. Luis was not helpful at all. After seeing the room, we told him we booked a 28 metre room. And our room was tiny. His reply “i don’t carry a measuring tape, some rooms are big and some are small”. Anyway we gave up, unpacked and went to bed. In the morning, we went to reception and she was so helpful! She said the room we booked was not available but she could move us to Galomar. From then on our stay was amazing. We were slightly annoyed that we had to repack and move as we had to wait for the new room to be ready at 1pm. So we did lose a morning. Not ideal when we only had two full days there. Everything else was excellent. The restaurants, the pools and the room. Just a note that the LIDO area by the ocean is public. Meaning that you will not get chairs/umbrella at that level (unless you go super early). But there are more near the other pool. We loved the Galomar and highly recommend you get a seaview room there.
Hotel Cais da Oliveira

We very much enjoyed our stay here. It’s part of a resort of three hotels that share the same facilities. We had two rooms both with a lovely sea view and balcony. The small kitchenette was basic and a tiny bit limited but ok for basic cooking. Only one room had a coffee machine. We only ate once in the main self-service restaurant which was enjoyable but slightly overpriced. We loved happy hour at the bar and also enjoyed the evening entertainment. All the staff were very helpful though the waiting time at reception could be long as there was generally only one person on the desk. We hired a car were able to park for free on the street outside the hotel and the hotel has a car park (€7.50/day). There are a few shops within walking distance. There are quite a few steps around the hotels though I think most areas are accessible by ramp or lift, but possibly not the pools. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
