Our experience of the hotel was enhanced by our meal in the restaurant, which I have reviewed separately. My favourite thing about the room was the enclosed balcony. It was like having a private yoga studio in the sky. (Fellow yogis note, the floor was slippery.) I also enjoyed the spectacular view from the Sauna, which at the time was free because it was not working optimally. (So do ask!) It was good enough for me, but it took over an hour to heat up. The Pool looked too small and shallow to actually swim in, but mostly it was unusable as it was colder than the sea. I don’t know if this was usual. Breakfast was fairly similar to ones we had at other Madeira hotels, but this place had the tastiest selection of fresh bread rolls and very good garlicky mushrooms. The room was clean. We liked the 3-section recycling bin in the room. Others mentioned lack of plugs for phones. Erm... we knew about that but were surprised to find that there were not enough plugs for the room items. The Kettle and TV had to share a wall outlet. They really should consider supplying an extension lead, which could be given out and collected at check-in, just as they (bizarrely) do with the TV remote control. We did start off on a rather bad note. At check in, we were downright ignored. One receptionist was settling a dispute with another guest, but both members of staff deliberately avoided any sort of eye contact with us. I don't normally notice this sort of thing, but it was rude and infuriating and lasted some time. A simple nod would have sufficed. I’ll put this down to a bad day for the first member of staff, who later was helpful. After a long wait for no discernible reason, the other receptionist demanded payment before we had even seen the room, for which we had paid in advance. We've stayed at many places who use multiple booking sites. Sometimes you pay on arrival, sometimes beforehand, and we understand that the hotel needs to know. However, there are ways of asking that don't come across as offensive and like one is trying to get away with something. Not everyone is out to steal the remote control. Make sure you bring proof of payment if you’ve paid in advance, as we had. The hotel is lucky that they have out of this world views.

I spent a night at PortoBay Serra Golf and had an amazing experience. We stayed in a room in the main house, which has 100 years of history. It is very cozy, and the service is excellent! Dinner at the Avo Micas restaurant was delicious, and the breakfast was equally impressive. We also enjoyed the sauna and the heated indoor pool, which were perfect for relaxing. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay in Santo da Serra.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of Funchal. Easy access to anywhere in the city. Some road construction near by that limits taxi pick up access, but hotel room is very comfortable, pool is lovely with great view and wonderfully helpful and friendly staff!

I stayed in Windsor hotel for 4 nights during my stay. The hotel is well located in downtown but that’s the only positive aspect. First impression of the staff was not so good, not friendly and my booking was not in the system. The building is very old looking like the 80s or 90s. The room is not comfortable with old furniture and the bed could be much better. The AC is making noise all night even when turned off, a problem said to be structural on the building related with condensation. The restaurant downstairs have good food, but the breakfast was terrible, very basic with no variety. I would suggest you to look for another place to stay to make your stay more pleasant in such a nice island.

Hotel facilities and equipment, although old, but also basically meet the needs of use, breakfast is very rich, the room given by the front desk should be considered the largest of the same type, but the floor is too low, the parking lot is noisy, the fly in the ointment is less front desk staff Smile, communication is frosty, resort hotels should not be like this. There is also a small episode at check-in. The front desk must ask me to send the order to the hotel's mailbox, and she has my order number in hand. Is it ridiculous!

Very good hotel top location right next to the bus direction airport and direction center Well soundproofed because we had seen the works … and that's fine, we slept very well despite that Only downside is breakfast or on arrival they force you to choose a time In case of change, you must call the night before. A truly four-star hotel. Large, well appointed rooms and bathrooms, quality furniture, impeccable cleanliness, kind, polite, helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent (but quite expensive, it's true), also with a professional and very kind staff. I highlight mainly Miss Ludovica, a very special person and a very pretty young lady. The only minus - the hotel is a bit isolated, there is nothing of great interest nearby. But a free shuttle service to Funchal is provided, three times a day, with the exception of weekends and holidays. I recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel as part of our week long trip in Madeira due to its proximity to the airport. The location was perfect and the hotel was spotless with an amazing hot shower. The small town where the hotel is located has plenty of little cute bars and restuarants too. Big shout out to the guy who was working doing the Karaoke during our stay - he was providing top entertainment in multiple languages and I loved it!

The hotel facilities and room were lovely. We booked a package with Jet2 holidays and we had half-board catering which includes breakfast and dinner. No drinks were included with dinner but that was fine because my partner and I prefer water with our meal. When we asked for tap water (which I read was safe to drink in Madeira) they refused and say we must buy a €3.75 bottle of water. Now when I checked online the AHRESP organisation for Portugal says it is mandatory that anywhere in Portugal provides free tap water. We were refused. We asked if we could bring in small bottles we had already purchased and we were not allowed. Essentially being forced to pay for a drink each night with our meal. Ridiculous given the price we paid for this holiday. Apart from this and the construction noises in the morning, everything else was great. Just be prepared if you also have a half-board holiday booked…
