I think most guests (including us) use this to visit the sanctuary and as a jumping off for their next lodge. For one night this is fine. Not sure I would want to stay here for 4 nights. Breakfast was meh, view over pond and into forest was very nice. Dinner was ok, but had to pre-order, so we could have iit when we got back from night hike, but other dinner people were ordering their meals when we were back - so this takes away from your full normal dinner experience. Staff was fine. Room was real basic, but large. They had a sign about mice in the room, but they said they had none, but I still tried to block the gap under the door. Curtains not great at blocking out morning lite, but you usually up early to get on with your day. A few normal bugs in the room. Shower was dark but fine. Bed ok. Mini fridge was nice touch. Construction next door for us just an eye distraction. We didn't see any wildlife on hotel grounds, but we had short stay. I would say it is too far to walk to another restaurant and to the sanctuary (unless you energetic hiker). Orangutan sanctuary worth visit, sun bear was fair (they attached). Need to go to Orangutan sanctuary during feeding time. The nite hike they do nearby is worthwhile.

We arrived around 2.30 pm and spent a pleasant afternoon on loungers overlooking the lake. Our room was quite large, bed and pillows comfortable. You do need to take care on the wooden walkways because they are uneven in places & the odd tree root has grown through, but we’re mid-late 60’s with dodgy knees, and we never had a problem. Food was fine & there’s a small bar serving cocktails, beer etc. One thing we found odd was that they serve food from7-9pm, but both nights they wanted you to place last orders at 8.30. We were there at the start of the Malaysian bank holiday and there didn’t appear to be any management around - perhaps that was why! The resort is 5 minutes drive from Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, and the sun bear sanctuary which both are musts, plus close to the Proboscis monkey sanctuary, also a must. The highlight of our stay here, though, has to be spotting wild orangutans both evenings, around 5.45, on our way back to our chalet. A true privilege, especially as we didn’t see them on the next part of our trip down the Kinubitangan River.

What a lovely resort to start our adventure! We were lucky enough on an early morning stroll to watch a group of Orangutans getting out of their nests, our first wild Orangutan sighting of the trip so very special. The sound of Gibbons at sunrise was lovely and lots of birds and butterflies magical. The breakfast was delicious and efficient, friendly service. We opted for the evening fire fly mangrove boat trip organised by the resort. A very authentic visit to see a local village called crocodile village and interesting to see how locals live. We were given a yummy tea of locally baked cakes and then taken along the mangroves where we saw Proboscis monkeys during daylight and lots of fire flies along the river side at night. We stopped at a beach also to wait for sunset. The boats are quite rustic but all added to the experience. They then served us dinner which was plentiful and tasty. We only stayed one night but would have happily stayed longer.

The Sepilok Nature Lodge was the first of 3 lodges we stayed at as part of our tour through Borneo with Borneo Eco Tours. We stayed here for one night, as it served as the jumping off point for our tour deeper into the Borneo Jungle, and it is very conveniently located near the Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Out Chalet was perfect and the food served for both dinner and breakfast was very good. The only con I have is that they are currently constructing a new "modern' facility across from the main lobby and pond, and have completely deforested that area and the building being constructed is not in line with the overall "lodge" aesthetic, and the construction noise at breakfast is a turn off. However, since we were only staying the one night, we could overlook this. I would however not stay longer.

The rooms were basic but very clean and everything worked. They were building at one end of the resort to add additional rooms and a pool area. Food at the restaurant was good and prices for a tourist hotel were reasonable. The grounds were pleasant to walk around and there is a path you can follow to take you around the resort. The orangutan sanctuary is a 2-3 minute walk from the resort.

Perfect location next to both orangutans and sun bear sanctuaries. Staff very helpful and a credit to the resort. Breakfast was freshly prepared to order while dinner menu very extensive, well priced and delicious. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Highlight of the trip and one we had looked forward to since we planned to come to Borneo. Lovely area dedicated to “rehousing” threatened species and orphaned Orangutans. Similar for the Sun Bears who have been treated so badly for their bile production in Asian countries. Both have freedom and some form of normal life again. Well done to the organisation for setting up. When you come you should always see some Orangutans in the Nursery area but not always in the feeding platform, be patient, and afternoon was better for us than the morning session where so many people on tours come

Ok where do I start The rooms are a bit tired and dated (new hotel being built next door with a pool) the safe didn’t work and bleeps all night (reported but not fixed)but air conditioning worked Wooden board walk rotted and very uneven don’t book if your balance is poor. Food was ok but dinner was supposed to be included in our package but we had to pay for it Breakfast was limited The cocktails were very good Staff were friendly
