Grand Hyatt Shanghai

Although the Grand Hyatt Jin Mao, built in 1999, is showing its age—which lowered our expectations—it actually turned out to be a great stay. The doormen actively opened car doors and retrieved our luggage. The front desk accommodated our requests as much as possible, upgrading us to a Grand Club River View Room on the 80th floor facing the Puxi Bund. The room was well-maintained, feeling fresh and clean. In the Executive Lounge, the afternoon tea's blueberry scones and walnut cake were quite good (the coffee machine is located in the innermost corner), though the evening canapés were of mediocre quality—I had the salted salmon. Breakfast on the 56th floor was decent; if you walk to the northernmost buffet station and look inside, you'll find freshly pan-fried buns (shengjianbao) and potstickers, which were delicious. The room is 40 square meters, and the bathroom is small and compact. Still, it's totally worth visiting for the experience—both its exterior and interior are the most stunning among the 'three major skyscrapers'.

On the second day, I switched to a executive king room. The Jin Mao Tower goes up to the 88th floor, but the top floors are for tourist sightseeing and skywalks. The hotel itself only goes up to the 85th floor, and the highest guest rooms are on the 84th. I was on the executive floor, which allowed me multiple entries to the executive lounge throughout the day. It was very luxurious, and the food was fresh. The service was excellent; they even upgraded me for free, which I really appreciated. The front desk staff were welcoming and patiently answered my questions. The gym was also very good.

Location: The hotel boasts an exceptional location, situated in the Jin Mao Tower, one of the 'Lujiazui Trio,' right next to the Shanghai Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center. The hotel's design seamlessly blends Eastern aesthetics with Western architectural beauty, exuding both old-money charm and luxurious style. All hotel staff are also bilingual in Chinese and English. Experience: Our entire stay was fantastic. Since it was my birthday, Mia from Guest Services specially arranged a room upgrade for us. From the room, we could see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Bund, and even the Magnolia Plaza across the river in North Bund. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the light show from here during the National Day holiday. Mia and her colleagues also prepared a Tiramisu birthday cake and flowers for me, for which I am truly grateful. Pool and Spa facilities: The indoor swimming pool's water quality was exceptionally clear, easily ranking among the top three of all the hotels I've visited. The sauna and cold plunge bath I experienced afterward were also excellent. The only area for improvement is that there was no discount for in-house guests at the hotel's buffet lunch. Even so, we will still choose to stay at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai on our next visit to Shanghai. The room type was great with a wide view, and the room was very clean and tidy. The breakfast was lavish, offering a wide selection of dishes in both Chinese and Western restaurants. Perhaps due to high occupancy, the restaurant and executive lounge staff lacked smiles and the proactive service mindset to anticipate guests' needs, falling short of providing a truly welcoming and home-away-from-home experience.

A wonderful hotel. We stayed on the 59th floor with a gorgeous view. My son loved the room more than any other, and we've stayed in a lot of places. There are plenty of glowing reviews here, so I'll share a few minor details instead. There is a pool, but I couldn't find any kind of heated towel rail. It's unclear where you're supposed to dry your swimwear and things. Many travel bloggers say that at front desks in China, you can ask them to help buy a suitcase and it will be delivered within an hour. The staff at this hotel were surprised by the request and refused to help. As for breakfast, it is fantastic, but I wandered around for a long time trying to figure out where everything was—I got quite lost. Still, I found passion fruit, coffee, and pastries, so I was happy in the end.

Overall, a very satisfactory stay~ Location: Excellent. Both taking a taxi and the subway are very convenient. I recommend setting your GPS to Gate 3 of Jin Mao Tower, where hotel bellhops are stationed to assist with luggage; the other gates only have security guards who won't help with bags. View: Unbeatable! Thanks to our butler, Kiki, for helping us upgrade to a river-view room. We could see the Oriental Pearl Tower, and my mom was thrilled~ Room: Not huge, but doesn't feel dated. High-quality toiletries, Dyson hairdryer, strong water pressure. The minibar is chargeable, but complimentary capsule coffee is provided, and they give you an absurdly generous amount of bottled water. Lounge and Breakfast: The variety is upper-middle tier for a five-star hotel, but some standout items were exceptional—like the salmon, fresh pork mooncakes, overnight oats, and the bakery selection was quite good. The view from the executive lounge is so stunning that the overall experience was still fantastic~ Service: Very professional and thoughtful. The butler team responded promptly; Kiki and Moon were both wonderful~ The lounge staff were also great! This is a stylish, high-quality hotel that I definitely recommend~

The room is on a high floor with an expansive view, offering sights of the entire Shanghai cityscape by both day and night. The surrounding skyscrapers are right up close, which is a truly amazing feeling, and the interior is very beautiful as well.

Located on the 71st floor, the room was very high up, spacious, and spotless, complete with full toiletries. Looking out the window, you get a great view of nearby and distant skyscrapers, with Tomson Riviera and the Shanghai Tower right in front of you. Enjoyed a lavish Chinese and Western breakfast on the 56th floor while taking in the high-rise view. Experienced the pool on the 57th floor with the exact same amazing view—I had the whole place to myself! The pool looks a bit small, but it's 1.6 meters deep and very clean. I swam for over an hour, cycling through four different swimming strokes all by myself. I especially loved underwater swimming at the bottom of the pool—it felt amazing! The hot spring pool and steam sauna were also fantastic. The service was warm and attentive, and I will definitely stay here again. Even my neighbors want to come after hearing about my experience. The price was super reasonable right after the Golden Week holiday.

The Grand Hyatt is in a top-notch location with exceptional service that truly makes you feel at home. The hotel has a grand and elegant atmosphere, and the rooms are spacious, bright, and well-equipped with high-quality hardware. You can enjoy panoramic views of the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Huangpu River, and the Bund. It’s very conveniently located for getting around, the breakfast is rich and delicious, and a staff member named Mia was professional and polite. Staying here is comfortable and prestigious, and the overall experience was simply fantastic 👍
