The hotel was beautiful and hygienic. Both check-in and check-out, the staff at the front desk are professional and welcoming. This trip is the wedding anniversary trip for my wife and me. The hotel also prepared a cake for me. The cake is very beautiful and creative. In addition, our front office manager, Mr. Liu, was very helpful throughout our stay. No matter what problems in the hotel, she can help coordinate and solve them in time. Or when we go out to play, they are very careful and fast to provide us with a plan to play, during which they have always maintained wechat communication with us, so that foreigners who come to China for the first time feel safe, just like their own friends. Our family is very happy to have met her here.

I chose this hotel for the outdoor pool. I was disappointed - it was filled anout a third of its capacity.
Be prepared to have breakfast with children while their parents staring at their phones.
Then, I asked for a room in a quiet area. I woke up 2 nights because of noisy hotel guests. This morning was the last straw - I left at 2am. This was a not what I expected and requested for a relaxing birthday staycation.
But! very helpful frontdesk staff.

This hotel is an attempt at opulence but comes off as gawdy. The craftmanship is poor (I cut my foot on a staple where the carpet meets the tile), and the color schemes are eclectic at best.
The lobby atmosphere is not inviting, and there was coffee in the rooms meant for drip coffee makers, but none were there.
I have been traveling in China 2-3 times per year for the past 20+ years and this is the first time I felt an obligation to give a review.

The hotel was surprisingly great. It was unique to experience the Eurupean-style luxurious vibe in the middle of Shanghai. The room, swimming pool and restaurant were excellent. However, I must complain about the service. First, the personnel needs to speak/understand English properly. I encountered a number of awkward issues because of that. Second, the bar placed on the left wing is terrible. The drink and food were not what you would expect from a high-end hotel, and the server attempted to overcharge me. She explained and dealt with it when I realized it later and came back a few minutes later. It was suspicious whether she did it intentionally.

Chateau Star River Hotel has really wonderful facilities. We were checked-in very late because there were lots of people checking out. We actually got settled in our room at 445pm instead of being checked-in at 2pm. At first, they placed us at Queen Room Garden View in which the air-conditioning was broken. After several minutes, they moved us to a much modern and newly-renovated huge, exquisite and elegant room.
I would really have loved this hotel if not for that stressful late check-in that happened. Hope they'll do something about that.

Hotel is nice. Pool and facilities are good. The service was however terrible. When I went to get breakfast they took my phone and food off my table and gave the table to someone else. Then then offered to replace the food but didn’t.

Hotel is close to the metro station, check in was very quick and efficient regardless of public holiday. Room is wonderful and big but has some signs of wear down. Still its so quiet at night and isolation is very good. Bed is comfortable bathroom facilities are big and comfortable. My biggest complaints are pool and breakfast. Pool is large yet so many children have swimming lessons that occupy a lot of space in the pool so its crowded. Breakfast spread was a bit disappointing for a five star hotel - coffee available only from a machine, there is no at spot making foods like eggs or noodles everything is premade. Starches were very good - dumplings and scallion pancakes but not a lot of variation. Overall a good and pleasant stay!
