Overall, room was very spacious, clean and came with an ensuite bathroom. The double bed was comfortable. However, the condition of the room was below standard. For example, the bathroom door had no door handle, the tv didn't work, the main bedroom light wasn't working, and no milk provided for tea/coffee. If these improvements were in placed would give it a 4-star rating.

LAD63 , who has apparently written some 2,736 reviews, says it all about this place and, being local, will doubtless know when the management last changed hands. It appears that the 5-star reports all refer to previous incumbents in 2023, as they would not apply now. Having driven 153.3 miles throughout the day from Lostwithiel, we were greeted with the news that they were fully booked. Now, I plan any holiday months ahead and, bought a Groupon on the 13th March, for which I have a receipt, as I was planning our 52nd wedding anniversary trip. When I 'phoned the Inn, I was told that the nights I wanted on our way to Cornwall were blocked because there was a wedding locally on Saturday August 10th. I therefore agreed to switch our plans around to stay here on our way home - Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. There is absolutely no organisation about the place, and the landlord made a cowardly retreat 'backstage' leaving a young barman to face the music, whilst we tried to find somewhere else to stay - on a Saturday night? It finally meant our driving a further 132 miles home to West Wales, without rest, or food, and very tired. 285 miles in one day may be safe for some but, in our mid-eighties, it was endangering our lives and the lives of others on the road. I also had to cancel a lunch booking at The Natterjack, and drive back to Cardiff on the Monday, where our last night of the holiday had been booked at The Miskin Manor, (Well worth a visit). The only advice the landlord of the Horshoes could offer ? -' Well Groupon will refund your money'. How callous was that? Having been in touch with Groupon this week, I learned that the Horseshoe management have their own system of dealing with bookings - Really? Well, it doesn't work. I feel the landlord will also have his own system of wriggling out of this - to which I shall not be able to respond. However, I can only repeat that, in my judgment, the latest two reports have put a very accurate mark on the place. which should be heeded. I present my reviews as I experience them and it is really the danger in which my wife and self had to face which got me really angry. If anyone wants to read a more typical report of mine - see The Moorlands Hotel Dartmoor, or The Fish Market in Looe. I have had to give this review one more star than is deserved.

A grade II listed property in a historical part of Shepton Mallet. Took time to read up on the area, would recommend everyone to do that, very interesting. Comfortable bed, clean room and great hosts. Some noise from the road adjacent to the Inn, not a deal breaker. Would I stay here again Yes.

Genuinely a really nice quaint pub, the beer garden is a real sun trap for those warm Friday/Saturday afternoons. Bar staff are always really friendly and chatty. There are some lovely drinks on draught, recently they have Clwb tropica (tiny rebel IPA), and a Nitro trooper Ale. If you walk by, I'd recommend stopping for a drink.

No double glazing in the bedroom overlooking the main road resulted in too much traffic noise overnight. Also parking near the hotel was not good.

The menu was lacklustre and half the things on it were not available. The place has no ambiance and the food we ordered took ages to arrive. Sadly the following day we discovered what looked like a good pub much closer to our accommodation. I wish we had seen it first.

As the pub is a short walk from home and never tried since new owners. We had high expectations of making this our local. Sadly the food and service did not live up to our expectations. We booked a table for mid week 7.30pm. Only landlady serving at the bar and later found out she was doing the cooking too. We ordered starters which were ok. However, when we went to order mains - 5 items not available so opted for fish and chips only to be told not available. My husband had a burger and I opted for scampi and chips. Quite a wait until food served and what a disappointment. I had about a dozen chips and around 7 scampi scattered on my plate with a small site salad - both frozen food. My husband pate burger was not good and only ate the salad and chips
