We had a lovely stay at the Eastbury hotel - all of the staff were really friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. Great choice of dishes for breakfast and a lovely, comfortable room. Excellent location right in the centre of town and all the Amelie’s within an easy walking distance. Would highly recommend!

I was treated to a weekend away for my birthday and stayed in this hotel for two night. The room we had was adequate but it was described as a “superior luxury double room”, and there is nothing superior or luxury about it. The bed was comfortable but the bed had ill fitting sheet so when you got in bed the sheet became undone at the top of the bed, the sheet was basically not the right size. The carpet was dirty and overall cleanliness was not great either. There were cobwebs in windows. The toilet was very close to the shower and there was only a fixed shower head with a fair amount of lime scale. The spa is tiny, but I did have a lovely full body massage and also a facial. The spa uses lovely Gaia products. The sauna is a bit of a joke, it is a cupboard with glass front and it sits in the room as you enter the spa so there is no privacy. The “changing room” is the toilet of the spa. We were also asked by staff to change our booked time in the sauna for other guests that were delayed, we felt this rather imposing on us. Breakfast is good. Plenty of choice as well as good menu options for full English or other egg based options. The fresh berries for the yoghurt ran out both mornings we had breakfast. The coffee was served in cafetières and was sometimes great and sometimes stewed and bitter. The staff didn’t pay enough attention to refilling so had to ask for them to do so. The staff in the hotel are pleasant but lack customer service skills. We had a broken lightbulb in one of the bedside lamps, we made reception aware of this in the morning, and were told it would be fixed. We came back in the late afternoon to find it hadn’t been fixed and had to go and ask again. Overall the hotel is okay but not worth the money we paid, very overpriced.

We were staying in Sherborne to attend a family occasion and chose The Eastbury as the Luxury tag, Condé Nast and Travellers Choice endorsements all seemed to point to an exceptional hotel. All I can really say is these reviewers need to get out more! I feel it’s a question of expectation management and our expectations were way beyond the actual experience. The ownership of this establishment needs to invest to support the staff and guests so that the claims of 5* ratings and the endorsements can be met. Briefly - We were advised in advance that the hotel did not offer dinner, we assumed that this was probably a temporary situation, it doesn’t appear to be. The room we had if typical was spacious but the furnishings, decor and bathroom were tired. There were no members of staff available beyond 21.00. There was no bar operating after 21.00. There was no functioning restaurant except for breakfast. All these things need to be rectified if the above claims and endorsements are to be realistic and the glory days of this historic hotel are to be regained. Alternatively reduce the price to something lower than the £185.00 we paid for one night b&b and manage the guests expectations. On the positive side the setting is charming, the breakfast was good and the staff pleasant.

Great location, quiet, peacfull, comfortable beds and perfectly cooked breakfast, plus a nice buffet selection of cerials, pastries etc. The only negative was not very nice coffee and there wasn't enough of fresh berries to go round. The restaurant staff are really great. The Spa facility was small, the sauna situated as you come into the spa so no privacy, the sauna has a glass wall. The "changing room" was the toilet. The Spa Massage Therapist was good and provided a nice full body massage. The products used in the spa are, all natural, Gaia. We visited for a Wellness Getaway Package staying 2 nights for £560.00 including breakfast. But the Eastbury is NOT a 5 star hotel, maybe a 3 star at best. We have stayed in all levels of hotel from Premier Inn and Pub/Inn's providing B & B to Beaverbrook near Leatherhead . Tylney Hall near Basingstoke earns 4 star and tbh Eastbury Hotel looks awful value for money in comparrisson. Our Superior Luxury Double room was not luxurious, we are very confused by the claim. It has been refurbished in the not too distant past, however, some very unusual methods of workmanship, leaves us feeling that its just not right, including a banister that crosses a windowsill and a roman blind that is split at the bottom to straddle the said bannister? The ensuite shower is accessed via a tight manoever around the wall hung toilet that is set at a low height suited to children. The washbasin had tap controls more suited to a bath. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and the windows. The carpet was very dirty and in a need of a good clean. The room had all the ususal, iroring board, hairdrier as well as coffee and tea making facilities. The staff lack attention to detail. The first impression was bad, arriving at reception desk to see a vase with flowers that had seen better days.

Lovely friendly welcome and on arrival we were given a up graded room, very comfortable large room, wonderful sheets and pillows, comfy bed, the bathroom was very large with a bath and separate shower, breakfast was nice and had a good choice and the hotel was within easy walking distance to the town .

We stayed in one of the potting sheds. Absolutely fabulous. The attention to detail was unbelievable. Including a commentary sip of rum as a night cap. Their restaurant was closed for evening meals but they told us this when we booked so that wasn't an issue. Plenty of places to eat very locally.

Tranquill with an elegant look combined with staff who are so helpful and welcoming. In the room a little more attention to the small details of 'decoration tiredness' would have elevated our experience further, but the ambience of the room made up for this. The Spa and Sauna/Jacuzzi /Hot Tub were amazing. We enjoyed the fact that it was for our sole use. In my experience ' First Impressions ' will always be remembered and talked about.

What a gem this hotel is! We stayed in their beautiful cottage that was very well equipped - a real home from home including a lovely welcome basket. It's always difficult to find accommodation for our annual trip of 3 couples and this worked perfectly. With 3 double bedrooms, large kitchen, dining room, sitting room and beautiful garden, we had plenty of space for all 6 of us. Just a point to note that although the attic bedroom is large with an ensuite, it is a steep climb! A perfect location for a few nights away with friends.

Comfortable and characterful room and hotel, with very nice breakfast and helpful staff. However, I didn't like being asked to pay a service charge on top of the bed and breakfast room rate. I also didn't like being sent so many automatically generated emails, prior to our stay.
