The smell hit us as soon as we entered the chalet - cats? damp? We couldn't really tell what it was - but it wasn't pleasant. Then - the kitchen: dirty utensils, cupboards and crockery , a rusty sieve, pans that had not been washed,,tea towels that would be better used as floor cloths! Fortunately, we found some cleaning fluid in a cupboard: so we set to work - cleaning the cupboards, fridge, shelves and the crockery and cutlery that we'd be using and putting everything we'd washed separate to the items that we would be avoiding. However, after an hour of cleaning, I decided that I'd had enough. This was NOT what I'd paid hard-earned money for when I booked and what I'd come on holiday to do! I eventually managed to contact the owner of the chalets and voiced my concerns and - later that day - a set of new pans arrived, along with clean tea towels and the assurance (by text) that all the dirty items had been washed. Not a good start to what was to be a long-overdue holiday, I regret to say! The chalet was very dated, had a mish-mash of furnishings, the decor left much to be desired and the kitchen equipment was very limited. The DVD player did not work, the electricity kept tripping off if we used more than 3 things in the kitchen, the towels smelt foisty and the windows and frames were dirty & mouldy. The bed was comfy - but the bedding always felt damp. As for the view: if a view of a working quarry, industrial units at the port and houses is 'stunning' - well, I'll say no more! There is a laundry on site - but don't be fooled by the 'glossy' advertising photos. Each time we went into the laundry with our recycling, we were met by over-flowing bins and heaps of damp towels and bedlinen on the floor! And the smell! Enough of the 'cons' and onto the 'pros' .......... There was plenty of hot water, the water pressure was excellent and there was always parking available. Although the owner lived 'on site', our paths never once crossed thoughout our week's stay. Was she avoiding her guests, I wonder? Yes - we were very disappointed with Easterhaul Chalets. We expected better.
