To ensure the authenticity of the displayed ratings, we do not simply calculate an average. Instead, we take into account the review credibility and the date of the guest's stay to determine the final rating.
The room facilities and hot spring facilities are good, but as a long-established Japanese hotel, maybe because the hotel has grown bigger, the staff are far less warm and friendly than the staff of small Japanese hotels, which is regrettable.

The hot spring is first-rate. The room has an ancient style.
Sleep: Had a Japanese style room with futons laid out. Futons were thin, they felt like worn thin foam mattresses that sagged in the middle. Pillows are flat and offers no support. Yukata smelt like mushrooms but smell went away after airing for a while. Onsen: there are 3 onsens. One without any windows and a small pool, one within the hotel block with both indoor and outdoor pools, and one outside the hotel, across the driveway with outdoor views. All are accessible to guests. There is also a private bath for rent. Food: Buffet breakfast was a good spread Overall: for the money I paid (22500 yen), i felt this was rather expensive. If i had stayed outside Idaho onsen itself, i might have been able to save more.

With its location along the famous stone stairs and its access to abundant "golden hot spring water", one can easily tell this is a long-established hotel in Ikaho. And this is the reason for my choosing to stay here since it is not easy to find onsen hotels that offer "natural flowing water" nowadays (onsen water will be "recycled" in many hotels). If one's purpose for coming to Ikaho is for their good water, Kishigo will be a good choice because they have three hot spring baths, and I particularly like the one detached from the main building, i.e. Open-Air Bath Gonzaemon no Yu. I got a Western style room with view of the stone stairs, nothing fancy, but I do not mind. As a solo traveller, I was not given the choice of dining at the hotel when making the booking. It worried me a bit at first since I always enjoy having traditional Japanese dinner in onsen hotels; and with this being my first visit to Ikaho, I did not even know if there is any restaurant in the area (shops in most onsen towns close at 5pm or earlier). It worked out all right in the end for there are restaurants, and I went to one that is just a minute's walk from the hotel. Dining out also meant I had more flexibility in spending time on a stroll around the area and relaxing in the hot springs.

We enjoyed several hot springs with excellent quality, including the large public bath, the open-air bath, and the open-air bath in the annex. The temperature felt a little hot at first, but once you got used to it, it felt just right, and it was good for a child's first hot spring. The women's bath had more amenities than the men's, and the quality of the hair dryers was better, so it seems to be more enjoyable for women. The staff were friendly to both Japanese and foreigners, and they lent us a foot towel when we used the foot bath after checking out, which was helpful. The room was a Japanese-style room that was more than enough for three people. There were many items for dinner, but the overall volume was small. The main target may be an older age group. Breakfast was a buffet, and we could choose from a variety of things we liked, which was nice.

On the first day of our stay at Ikaho Onsen, we stayed at a long-established inn at the top of the mountain. We were so impressed with the quality of the spring water at Ikaho Onsen that we stayed at the neighboring Kishigon Ryokan on the second day. As this is the oldest inn, the atmosphere is felt throughout the building. We felt it was a luxury to be able to hop between the baths, each with its own unique atmosphere, within the building. The food was excellent, the room was also excellent, and we were able to enjoy Ikaho at our leisure. The famous stone steps were right in front of us, giving us a taste of Ikaho. We could see Mount Akagi in the distance.

For an additional fee of 2,750 yen, we took a private bath as a family of four. I felt very rich. Mom and I were the first to take a bath together. Then my eldest son and second son joined us. It was very good. I parked my car at the 4th parking lot near Ikaho Elementary School. When I called the inn about parking, a shuttle came right away. The shuttle car climbed a winding uphill slope and arrived at the entrance of the inn from what looked like a secret base. It was almost time to take a private bath, so after checking in, I went straight to my room and took a private bath. There were some foreign staff members, but all of them were kind and polite. It goes well with Mataemon no Yu (3pm to 10am the next morning), so I went there three times. The first time I took a private bath, I took a total of 4 baths. The accommodation plan is [Standard at Kishigon Ryokan] <Shiki-zen> where you can taste local Gunma beef in season. The evening meal is beef shikimae. We had a buffet in the morning, and both dishes were delicious. As soon as you leave the inn, there is a staircase street. After I finished eating around 8am, I went out to see how many people were lining up at the udon restaurant I was looking for (Osawa-ya). After that, my two sons and I went down to the start of the 365-step staircase, climbed the stairs to the top, Ikaho Shrine, paid a visit to Ikaho Shrine, and then returned home. Although it was Monday, a public holiday, some shooting shops and other shops were open around 8am. Tourists were also starting to arrive. I want to go again.
Excelente!
