We wanted a really good breakfast with our daughter after she d spent a couple of days with us. Chose this over another venue as we could book a table & we couldn't there. The menu looked good & I was looking forward to the full English . Unfortunately I was really disappointed, the sausage was burnt black and the bacon so rubbery, my knife wouldn't cut it. The hash brown looked like somebody had chewed it. The bread was possibly the most disappointing item, I'd expected decent bread with grains in or something similar - it was the cheapest white sliced available. My husband's ham in his Eggs Benedict was nearly white - the kind you'd reject if the online grocery delivery included it - it had obviously been around too long. Mercifully, our daughter's granola and GF toast was fine & I enjoyed the flat white. It wasn't a cheap breakfast, I was definitely expecting far better for the money. Despite the beautiful surroundings, we won't be back & won't be recommending the experience to friends.

This place is very popular and has clearly found a niche that resonates with local people so my review is in that positive context. However the arrival didn’t go well. Waited well over ten minutes for someone to arrive at the hotel check in end of the bar, having been sent for by a member of bar staff in fairly short order. Not unfriendly but not that friendly either and no apology for the wait. The room and bed very comfortable. Huge bathroom but weirdly only the windowsill to put things on. It could easily have accommodated a table or set of drawers and would humbly suggest that is considered. Dinner was another long wait to be seated making us late ( by the person who checked us in who walked past several times in deliberate ignoral until “captured”) . It was then another age before the order was taken but much to our surprise the starters came quickly and were all superb, particularly the risotto. Equally the mains were simple but masterful cooking. Not trying too hard and good flavours. We understood why on a Tuesday night the restaurant was busy. Breakfast is fine if you want a cooked brunch style breakfast. The menu is extensive from that perspective. If like us you prefer a continental style you are poorly served with little choice, No range of cereals or good breads , fruit etc etc. Would be very easy for them to do. Service the first day was very slow. The second efficient. Checkout was met with no acknowledgement by the person at the hotel check in part of the bar , no “ how has your stay been” etc. This is a place that is good but could be great with better management

We Arrived late afternoon on a Sunday, it was extremely busy with Sunday lunches and parking was minimal however we were met and welcomed by Martin in the car park who guided us to a space then into the hotel to our check-in point at the bar and carried my case through whilst giving us a lovely history of the hotel and church behind, he apologised that we would have a little wait to be checked in as all staff were busy but we didn’t mind, a big thank you to Martin. We stayed in the Junior suite (room 4) it was clean, very roomy and very comfortable and the road in the front was busy at certain times of day certainly did not disturb us, I’m not a fan of high rainfall showers but this had a hand held shower attachment but unfortunately it wasn’t able to stay in place so I hope this will be fixed (would have mentioned at checkout/ see later comment on checkout). Breakfast was lovely, no buffet and all cooked to order which we prefer, there were good choices however I was surprised that no porridge/ cereals were on offer, only yoghurt, fruit and granola, so I had the almond croissant it was delicious mind ( I personally don’t like yogurt) the lady that served us each morning was very pleasant and always welcoming, sorry don’t know your name but thank you. We ate two nights in the restaurant and enjoyed it very much (crispy beef salad was great) the staff we encountered were pleasant, welcoming and they all from what we experienced worked hard and never stopped as the hotel was very busy (half term) We checked out with the lady sitting at the bar ( well handed a key over) despite this young lady being pleasant enough and thanked us for the key she failed to to ask us if we had an enjoyable stay and if we were happy with everything or even say have a safe journey home ( which our breakfast server did) it’s the little things like this that go a long way especially when you’ve spent a lot of money for your stay. This however wouldn’t stop us returning as overall we did enjoy our stay in this lovely hotel and good location.

My husband and I have been putting off visiting since the refurb, as we were worried it would not be the same anymore… we were correct but it was even better! We visited for lunch and we enjoyed every minute of our time. I knew it was going to be good, when I saw ‘wicked lady’ offered as one of the rose options! I had the chest gnocchi and my husband had the bacon chop. Food was amazing, service impeccable and the surroundings beautiful. We will be visiting again in the near future… I really hope you will be offering a Christmas afternoon tea!

Would have actually loved to go on October 20th with my family. My sister in law and I rang all day and through the evening on Saturday 19th trying to book. No one answered the phone, I emailed I had an auto response they had received my request but heard nothing since. Would not ever use this hotel again, they just ignored the phone. Very unprofessional.

The breakfast is fab, loads of choice, swift service and fab decaf coffee. We have now had 2 evening meals here, and wont be going back, maybe the chef needs more training, I do not mean to offend. Overcooked fish (dry as a bone) not enough staff to cope, wrong orders just spoilt the experience.

Booked this as it appeared to be the only dining opportunity in the area where we were staying in an NT cottage. Service was brusquely polite and rather inattentive, eg no side plates or glasses on our table, despite starter arriving well before long awaited drinks order. When my wife politely pointed out the very obvious shortcomings in the meals ordered, it was met with little more than a brief acknowledgment. No apology was offered. Not at all what we expected from the normal experience of B and P restaurants as they are in our part of the country.

Went with family for Sunday lunch. Beautiful setting and attractive interior let down by nightmare parking, tepid food and rather brusque waiting staff. It's such a shame that they can't get something as basic as temperature of a roast dinner right ( a jug of hot gravy might have helped) Unlikely to go again.

We stayed here for 1 night whilst passing through Shrewsbury. The room (Room One) was very nicely decorated with good quality fixtures and fittings. However the space in the room was very tight with little room for luggage and two people moving about! This ground floor room was also very noisy from both road traffic and pub guests. The pub and restaurant area was lovely with lots of tables and the service at the bar was very good. Car parking was a little tricky given we were overnight guests (perhaps a designated area may help) but there was a chap helping out guiding people where to park. Breakfast was a little hit and miss - whilst the service was good, I've never had scrambled egg cooked in oil which made the breakfast dish inedible. Would I stay here again? Probably not but was okay for a 1 night stay.
