Le Bassin is a beautiful resort located on the Khwae Yai River. It is located in a tropical jungle, and the resort’s grounds are nicely tended without being prissy or taking away from the jungle atmosphere.) The rooms are comfortable and air-conditioned. The beds are a little on the hard side (the Thai preference) but still comfortable. We both slept well as did Jackky’s mom, niece, & nephew in the room next door. Both of our rooms were connected by a shared deck with comfortable seating, tables where we could enjoy a snack or read a book, and a view out over a branch of the river. The dinner menu is Thai and the food was yummy. Breakfast was wonderful, with a charcoal grill for toasting bread and the staff preparing fire-roasted bananas. (There was addictive garlic butter for the toast!) The breakfast tray included a delicious rice soup, breakfast meats, and an egg cooked with potatoes. We ate our fill, with the teenagers packing away an impressive amount. Everyone enjoyed both the breakfast & atmosphere. Summary: While not a luxury resort, Le Bassin is a beautiful & comfortable base from which to enjoy the delights of Kanchanaburi Province. (The resort’s name is french for ‘The Pelvis’. The reason is apparent when looking at the resort from satellite view on Google Maps.)
