The experience was very poor, I can only say it was extremely bad. We planned to drive from Luxor to Siva by ourselves, and confirmed the route of the self driving journey through email two days in advance. The hotel replied that there was no problem, but after driving in the desert for more than 7 hours, we encountered a military checkpoint. The soldiers at the checkpoint told us that we should apply for a pass in Cairo in advance. When we contacted the hotel, they had no idea that we needed to apply for a pass in advance, We did not check in but had to pay for 4 days without any apologies or refunds. Egypt, at least the service of this hotel in Siva, was the worst and most disgusting experience of our entire trip to Egypt. If Google could give it a negative score, I would definitely give it a negative 100. Very, very, very poor service and experience. PS: As of now, the hotel has not responded to us in any way. It's not that we can't afford this money, but that their eating habits are too unsightly. We paid for the room for four days without checking in, and drove back to Cairo for a full 15 hours that day. The hotel surprisingly claimed that we were the first to encounter such a situation. If even local hotel operators in Egypt cannot know the correct way to arrive, do we, as foreigners, need to understand the various dazzling regulations better than locals?
