We had an amazing time at Tankavaara in December 2023. Firstly the area in winter is absolutely stunning. Secondly the staff were fantastic in the bar area and guides and driver. Shout out to both Kimmos! We chose to stay in the Sompiotalo Deluxe apartment which was a 10 minute (very enjoyable) walk from the reception. It is a great apartment. In terms of activities we did the northern lights snowmobile tour with Tankavaara (Kimmo 2) which was AMAZING. We also did the Lappish Dinner meal in the traditional Kota and indoor winter gold panning with Kimmo 2. The good museum is also surprisingly really good. We booked husky and reindeer safaris ourselves from Tankavaara recommendations. Absolutely fantastic time.

Plain / simple furnishings but everything you need and incredibly cozy. Very quiet and secluded location - so you have your peace. Would go back in a heartbeat.

110 km north of Rovaniemi, location on slope, surrounded by spruce forest.Log cottage 1991, living room/kitchen two bunks, bedroom two beds, dressing room, sauna (stove heated by wood or electricity), open porch.Wi-fi 4G. Cottage is located on border of Pyhä-Luosto national park. Surroundings are old-growth forest in a natural state. There is a television set in the cottage, but the signal might occasionally be weak due to the location of the cottage.Amethyst mine 10 km and amethyst spa 4.5 km, Horse riding opportunities 10 km, Sodankylä 35 km. Ski cafe Torvisen Maja 100m (open during the winter season).

The location is perfect and easy to reach even without a car. Fast and uncomplicated communication. Everything present what it needs.

The hotel is very well located, close to the shops, as well as a track of luges and patinoires located at 5-10min walking from the hotel where we could borrow the luges freely in the hotel. We have enjoyed the offered dishes, very well cooked. The rooms are spacious and clean. We strongly recommend this hotel located in this small town of Sodankylä, peaceful and welcome.

The hotel’s location and the atmosphere of Lapland forests is unique and magic, it is unbelievably romantic and peaceful. Meals are super tasty and always there is a lot to choose from. We stayed in the Riverside log cabin, it was very cosy. The guides for the adventure trips were perfect. The only negative issue were some of the waiters, apparently not from Finland. If you don’t tip them a sum of money they consider appropriate, they will completely ignore you and let you feel like a piece of rubbish. They repeatedly took away wine glasses from our table without even asking what we want to order or bringing the wine list and they even stopped greeting us. I have only seen this behaviour in third world countries and wouldn’t expect it in this amazing hotel. It is a shame!

Small hut, but very comfortably furnished. There were two of us, there was enough space for us and we had everything we needed there. The only drawback (for me) was that the mattress was a bit too hard. But I have chronic back pain, so not every mattress
