Viking Inn

This wonderful little hotel is in a great location! We had a lovely one-night stay at the Viking Inn. We made a last-minute decision to stay the night in Solvang, and I was able to book online and head right into our room. Air conditioning worked great and the room was very quiet. We would 100% stay here again!

While the shower temperature was erratic at times, the room was lovely and comfortable.

While it was all too short with our one night stay, we thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations and amenities and location of the he Viking Inn. Owners notes and texts were helpful and personable and the renovated rooms were nicely accented and very comfortable. Our pet also enjoyed her stay.

If you’re looking for a cute, modern, and clean hotel in Solvang that is reasonably priced, then this is it! The Viking Inn surpassed our expectations. I knew it was a former motel that had been renovated, but it was even better than I thought - hardwood floors in room, stylish tile in bathroom, good amount of amenities in room (coffee, water bottles, HUGE cable TV, black out shades). We didn’t have time to take advantage of their offerings like wine passport, bikes, or fire pit, but I wish we could! I did have my morning coffee sitting outside on one of the chairs and I loved watching all the people and cars go by. Would return. Only thing that needs upgrading is the shower/tub - very old- but I know they are in the process of it.

Did not disappoint! Saw the property on Motel Rescue and had to see for myself. Great location, friendly staff, contactless checkin so didn’t have to worry about keys. Parking was a little crazy but it was ok. It is a motel so not a lot of amenities but the room had coffee microwave and mini fridge. The black out shades were nice and didn’t need ear plugs. Overall it was just a great little stay!!!

With so many choices of where to stay, it is sometimes hard to find the right place. My wife and I have stayed in Solvang many times over the years. From other hotels on one side to Motels in the middle to The Viking Inn. We have now found our little gem. The location is great because you are on the beginning of the ***** or end depending on which way you came into town. You can park your car and never have to drive again until you are ready to leave. Also, you are not in the middle of town with all the nightlife hustle and bustle from the restaurant bars, but you are only a block away to walk home. The other benefit is getting personal treatment from staff or the owner Angie. This isn’t a place that just takes your booking money and off you go. The staff is courteous, friendly, welcoming, and informative. I feel like you get personalized service here. Guadalupe is the lady who does housekeeping and she is pays attention to the details and is super friendly and hard-working, so tip her when you stay. I would suggest you set real expectations of where you are at. You are not at a 5-star Ritz Carlton so don’t expect the same. But if you are looking for a quiet, clean, maintained and cared-for place then stop looking because the Viking Inn Motel is the place. You get little extras as well, like the benefit of a firepit, a coffee pot in the room, you have a mini fridge. Just little perks that make the stay better in my opinion. All the love and details that have gone into the renovating of this place show the love that Angie and her husband have for this little place and their guests. I highly suggest you stay here if you are not looking for a place to not break the budget, and don’t need the glamour of the Ritz but still want a safe, cared-for place to lay your head then the Viking Inn Motel is the place. I had a most wonderful experience staying at this awesome boutique motel! The staff was gracious and welcoming, and attended to every need. The room was clean and spotless with great décor, besides being peaceful and quiet (no earplugs needed) – I especially appreciated the blackout roller shades on the windows (no eye mask needed). Also, the nicely appointed bathroom with the great step-in shower was perfect. The bed was incredibly comfortable with great linens (could’ve stayed in it all day!). And finally, an inviting outdoor space with Adirondack chairs surrounding a cozy firepit. Great value. I can’t wait to return!

This motel was featured in the Magnolia Network’s show Motel Rescue and it still needs rescuing. We stayed in the suite that was remodeled on the show, but it was already tired and worn. The bigger issue is they got rid of all the amenities featured on the show, so if you go expecting to see what was on TV, prepare to be disappointed. There’s no snack shack, the bikes are ugly cruisers not the cute pastel bikes featured, they replaced the reclaimed wood shelves in the suite with a giant TV hanging off the wall with cords everywhere. The courtyard furniture and mural are gone too. The good is it’s clean, and dog friendly. it’s just very overpriced and back to being a basic, no frills kind of place. We paid almost $300/night and it’s just not even close to being worth that when everywhere else in town charges similarly and offers a lot more. We were disappointed and it felt like a bait and switch.

You really get what you pay for … including ants, mini-refrig that freezes all placed in it. They obviously have not heard that there is a severe drought… oh… don’t bother getting hot water or using a dead-bolt. But it is quiet, close to shopping downtown, and cheap.
