The accommodation providers in Hedland milk the mining companies and the poor traveller gets caught in the middle. This was the most expensive room on a 7-week trip, yet also the worst room of all. Old dirty furniture, parts of the room and bathroom were falling apart, clunky aircon, no servicing of rooms, no provision of extra pillows/blankets/iron/ toaster etc that would normally be expected, sheets were see-through thin, fridge was iced up and all the internal doors and shelves were missing . Pool was closed the whole time despite being 38 degrees. The owners should be totally ashamed. While it hurts, I recommend paying a bit more and stay somewhere that actually cares about its customers' comfort. The experience ruined the trip to Hedland actually. Local tourism and business leaders need to take this issue on.
