Basecamp Tahoe South

Chose this hotel for the location and the fact it looked great from the photos. However : There was a bad smell in the room which we couldn’t identify. TV was missing cables, coffee machine had no coffee, sink would not drain and hairdryer was faulty - the phone in the room can only accept calls and you can’t call out so we had to go to reception in minus temperatures to log the issues. In hindsight I would have spent a bit more and chosen another hotel, wouldn’t recommend this as an option if you’re in the area.

There shampoo and body wash was empty

Good place. Good location. Fun brewery. Good coffee bar. Terrible breakfast food.

The good: Coffee was good and hotel gave out passes to the lake beach that were very, very discounted and could be used when the beach was closed to to public due to too many people. The bad: I stayed at this hotel on a friday and saturday night mainly because of the convenience of the Biergarden but we could not use the Biergarden either night because 2/3 of it was closed off on friday for a party and saturday for a wedding. There was no where to sit. The ugly: I had a family room (226) and the carpet was terrible, it had stains a huge stain when you walked in looked like someone dropped a bunch of bleach. In addition many other stains. The furniture looked very worn. Eventhough the room was clean, the balcony was dirty, the hallways were dirty, the stairs to the second floor was very dirty, garbage cans all over the place and other garbage. More ugly: no nightly cleaning service. Have to call for towels which they brought (not possible to reuse towels that do not dry). Also, maids left us with 1/2 a roll of toilet paper when we checked in for a room that sleeps 6. Called for toilet paper with the towels but it never came. Then called 5 times, leaving messages never got toilet paper. Went to the front desk to enquire and was told they were busy as they were at 100% occupancy so they don't have time to listen to messages or answer the phone.

Basecamp is amazing, offering a pleasant and cozy stay. The staff was very friendly and attentive, always ready to help and provide recommendations. The rooms are very comfortable, and they have an incredible coffee that has become my favorite. 10/10

Great place to stay for a night or two in South Lake Tahoe

Basecamp itself was great and service was amazing. Room was so-so, it could be updated but overall we had a great stay. We love all the amenities and enjoyed the firepits during the cold weather. We plan on staying again next visit
