We visited Southport as a reconnaissance trip to see if we’d like to call this place home. The town is quaint, historic and beautiful. Our stay at River Hotel encompassed all that the South stands for; charm, very friendly people and comfort. The hotel is in a great location; very close to Downtown and ferries to Fort Fisher and Bald Head Island, and right on the Cape Fear River. The property was very clean and well kept. We had a corner room on the back side of the building with a king bed. The balcony faced the water and the room was filled with tons of natural light. The bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve slept in a long time. The finishes were nice and the room had a small kitchen with full-size refrigerator and microwave. We met Jack, the GM, down by the beach while listening to live music. All staff from management to front desk to cleaning folks were very kind and lovely. I would stay again and highly recommend!

I really like this little place. Not a ton of last-minute rooms for less than a week in Southport but this one was just what I was looking for. Crazy clean. Ladies who run it are so very lovely, welcoming, and accommodating. Absolutely love the little “beach” area for enjoying the evenings and the room was very comfortable. Also spotlessly clean…. Must be fairly new. Nice kitchen, roomy bathroom. I only took a star because it’s SO bright in the am- no way to stop the sun so I had to build a little pillow fort around my head to sleep till 6:30. Got to the beach nice and early and got a good parking spot as a result of getting on up, but bring an eye mask if you like to sleep in. Also- ask for a top floor room. There must have been a nocturnal elephant in the room over mine bc the stomping went on ALL night. Book it now if you like to enjoy an evening beverage while watching the boats come in.

River Hotel of Southport is a short walk to the beach and a short walk to Southport town. The hotel looks new. It has a pool and is located on the beach. It has a small kitchenette and a nice size bathroom with shower. There’s only 1 room and it has the bed, a small table and 2 chairs and a small sleeper sofa. There is a nice size tv and dresser. There’s a small sitting porch off of the bedroom on the backside of the room. There is some covered parking. There was a live band out by the beach on the patio on the Thursday night that we were there. Totally adequate for a couple.

The staff were super friendly and the room was spotless. We arrived late and the office staff had made sure I understood how to access my room keys and where I was going prior to arrival. The views were spectacular and relaxing. Absolutely amazing stay; even canceled a different reservation at another hotel in leu of staying here again.

Mine was a 15-hour stay; easy and convenient. I had hoped to enjoy the view of the river, but with cold temps (didn't venture onto balcony) and the arrangement of the furniture, the only view possible was while standing next to the window. I little disappointing.

Fantastic stay! Staff is so kind! Room was super clean. Location is convenient. If in the area again I would stay again. It was great sitting out on their large deck and watching the boats go by. We found the prettiest shells on their little beach.
