If I could’ve given a “0” rating, I would’ve. This place is filthy. This is one of the very few times I failed to read TripAdvisor reviews about this boutique lodging. We arrived to St. Andrews only just yesterday afternoon. The guy at the reception desk was nice enough. So here’s how it went: there is no elevator. Therefore you have to carry your own baggage up a flight or two of stairs. That’s only a problem if you need assistance of some type to do so. But when we were introduced to our two rooms, the first thing we noticed was the awful and dank smell. The carpet was disgustingly dirty! The lighting is awfully dark. The couch in the sitting area of the room was also filthy and stained. Dare I tell you that the bedding was dirty and bathroom was not cleaned, nor did it appear to have been disinfected or sterilized somehow. We were disgusted! We left our rooms immediately to grab dinner (at TailEnd, which I highly recommend), during which time we booked two lovely rooms at the Old Course Hotel, only a less-than 5 minute drive away. We collected our baggage from Kinnetles and just left. (Kinnetles, use our reservation money to hire cleaning staff). For the same price, our new lodgings offered 2 large rooms, great views of the golf course, a true gym and spa ( the “spa” at Kinnettles was just a tub, which required a 30-minute advanced notice to use so they could “warm up the water”. If a private room bath wasn’t cleaned, I can’t imagine their “spa” being cleaned), a full breakfast buffet, AND most importantly, VERY CLEAN ROOMS, BEDDING, AND BATHROOMS! I write this on our 2nd of 4 nights here. It’s so pleasant to enjoy a vacation in comfort and without a feeling of disgust. I would definitely steer clear of Kinnettles until a complete cleansing and refurb are done, especially if you care about cleanliness and comfort. A rating of “0” is a slight bit generous, and I won’t forget to read trip advisor reviews again.
