Best Western Plus St. Johns Airport Hotel and Suites

Good location for travellers who have cars and don’t need to be downtown that much. Walking distance to the airport and hotel pickup and drop off services are every half an hour. Friendly staffs!

Primarily catering to travelers flying to or from St. John's, this hotel exceeded our expectations for comfort and service. The receptionist kindly allowed us to check in early, as soon as a room was available, and the lobby made a comfortable place to wait meanwhile. The food in the restaurant was good if a tad pricey. The free shuttle was a plus.

This Best Western is very close to the Airport and only about 10-15 minutes from downtown. Pro's: Nice big rooms and bathrooms/showers Stairway is large and roomy (Long wait for elevator) Con's: Air conditioning is borderline non-functional making for very warm rooms Restaurant charges gratuity by default on the bill Housekeeping was hit or miss One elevator was out of service for most of my stay The primary reason I book a hotel room is for a good nights sleep. It is hard to sleep when the room is too warm. The thermostat is restricted so you can't pick a decently low temp for sleeping, but that is irrelevant because the A/C doesn't work effectively. Mine was running for three days straight without ever turning off and only hit the (restricted) target temp when cold wet weather came in. I asked maintenance to check on it and I was told that it was working correctly. I asked what happens in the summer when its actually quite warm outside and I was told that the rooms get pretty warm and that they are all the same. If it managed to cool down to 20'C, it was a miracle. Moving about the room would cause it to heat up again. I ate breakfast my first morning and was forced to pay a gratuity as it was automatically added to the bill. There were 6 of us for breakfast. No other restaurant in the region charged us this way. I never ate there again. My eggs were way overcooked as well so not a good first impression regardless. Housekeeping was good overall, but it was hard to get items replaced (like drink cups, make-up wipes, coffee creamer, etc). I left a tip and also left a note requesting these items, but it rarely resulted in any changes. The beds were comfortable, but silverfish were frequently seem running around in the bathroom. Staff was friendly, I would stay again, but not in the warm months of the year.
