We often dine or have a drink in the George as we love its laid back, old fashioned charm. Although we only live 30 minutes away, we also stop over occasionally. We attended the jazz evening. The band was superb. The food was OK - everyone needs to be served at the same time. Service was excellent. The room and bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean. Looking forward to booking again in the New Year!

We live in Stamford but decided to go all out and stay in the best place in the home town. We booked a double room and a table in the Oak Room restaurant. What a stay. The room was upgraded to a 4 poster room and the staff and service were all perfect. Free tea and coffee in the rooms, any drinks from the bar will be brought up. We visited all of the rooms downstairs and enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. The hotel really does love up to it's reputation, and while it is expensive, I feel it truly odd with every last penny. Hoping to stay again very soon.

Excellent nights stay at the George. All the staff were wonderful and up for some banter. Jay and her colleagues in the restaurant are worthy of mention- we had a fun night with our meal. The food was excellent. My oysters were tasty and fresh. The beef of the main course cooked to perfection. Will definitely stay again.

I visited 28 Sept George Restaurant recently, and the experience was just okay. The food risotto was average in taste—nothing special or particularly memorable. The flavors didn’t stand out, and I expected more from the dishes I ordered. What made things worse was that they forgot my seabass fish, which was one of the main dishes I was excited to try. Despite reminding the staff, the dish never arrived, leaving me quite disappointed. Overall, the service felt disorganized, and the experience didn’t live up to expectations. I hope they can improve both their service and attention to orders in the future.

Having been attracted by the venue and building, we stopped at the George for lunch without knowing what to expect in the restaurant. We opted for the garden room which was a good choice. The food was traditional English without fancy Masterchef type flourishes. The quality of the food however was excellent with the staff attentive and helpful. The venue is a mixture of rooms which need time to take in but there is no doubt they have character; tradition melds the venue with the food and staff. Certainly an establishment to return to but be prepared for the bill when it arrives.

The tea was lovely, finger sandwiches, scones , pastries real tea in pots that don’t leak when you pour and a surprise birthday cake with firework and happy birthday sang to me by the servers ,thank you for that we actually enjoyed it that much we returned next day for lunch in the garden room which was perfect , lovely surroundings, great food very attentive pleasant, polite staff …everything about this place is a joy , def be going back again

Booked an A l a carte lunch. The food was good but the atmosphere and customer service somewhat lacking. We spent just under £300 on lunch for 2 and not even offered water for the table! I have visited the George over 20 plus years and feel the passion no longer exists and the restaurant areas and bedrooms are somewhat dated now. Time for a refresh

Very charming coaching inn that is proudly traditional down to blankets on the beds and tea delivered to your room in the morning. Lovely comfortable rooms with excellent bathrooms although they might consider a few extras given the fairly stiff pricing. Warm staff who were considerate and courteous. Excellent old school dinner in the Oak Room restaurant was a real treat with lots of trolleys, fabulous beef carved table side, old school puddings. Breakfast was excellent and served to the table (no dreadful buffets here!). Lovely gardens, atmospheric public rooms and a real old world charm.
