Internally nice rooms but cold water and very slow breakfast service! For the rest I recommend it!

Staff are dirty and unprofessional. The first day I had breakfast, the lady serving me was wearing a very dirty trouser, she was not hygienic at all. The sheets on the bed had a big hole which was shocking. I’m a big coffee drinker, when I travel I move around with my coffee and I love making coffee in my room. I was shocked to see the kettle in my room, how dirty it was.

I travel to zanzibar for business frequently and it’s always had to find places to stay when it’s high season. I have stayed at this property over a year ago a couple of times and was never happy with the stayed at this hotel months ago and was never happy. I thought after a year I will give them another chance but it’s the same. Disappointing really.

I really would love to write a good review, however would not be fair if I didnt be honest... Building exterior is beautiful, modern yet nice touches of authentic Zanzibar architecture. Location is good, right across the Ferry Docks. We were told it is a 4 minute walk from Ferry. Pulled our bags and started to walk...there was absolutely no visible sign from the road on the property, its hidden from the main road, and when we asked the locals, nobody seemed to know about it. We walked in the scorching heat lugging our bags for at least half an hour if not more. Finally flagged down a tuk tuk to take us there.we had apparently passed it and were almost in the centre of the Darajani Market by then. The taxis and tuk tuks all had difficulty finding the place. Next to it was Golden Tulip which had proper signs, perfectly paved entrance and visible from the road...too bad, started off with negative vibes! Also two out of three days we were there, the elevator was out of service with no sign of any repairs to it. We are seniors and doing the stairs was not easy, and unacceptable for so long. Staff was nice, breakfast was not bad. Rooms were super small. Ours had no view, just a building like two feet away... Also the little road leading to the hotel is horrible, many bajaj drivers refused to come to the entrance..could easily be fixed/maintained by the Property. Would i go back to this hotel? Probably not...

The rooms are clean but really small. Bathroom was clean and nice hot water. We got a queen bed room and the room is basically the size of the queen bed 2ft on each side of the bed. The only way we could open a full size suitcase was to put it on the bed. Location is good. Its like a 2 minute walk to the Zanzibar ferry station. Breakfast is excellent. Fresh fruit juices, freshly made eggs.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Staff very courteous and accommodating, rooms nice and clean. It’s conveniently located, right in the heart of the city where everything is easily accessible either by walk or by cab. Will definitely return when back in Zanzibar.

Spend a night in this hotel, and the best was the room and how clean was it. Breakfast can be better, also the service was not that good, specially on the upstairs terrace, but for a nice and confortable sleep I will definitely recommend. Location is good, very close to the port.

Old hardly maintained. Room has a balcony which feels like it is about to give up. We stayed here for just one night because it was so bad. I dont think best western franchise know how bad this place is. Apart from the AC that was cooling properly it just just an old old hotel which has long lost its glory days.

Right outside our room at 11pm just as we got back, there was a huge explosion of the boiler and the hallways were filled with steam and fumes. We couldn't even see out the room. There was no evacuation carried out by the hotel and no fire and safety standards. After the incident, the only thing the staff told us was that we could shower in one of the staff rooms as the water would be off for the next day. Super unprofessional and unacceptable. The most unprofessional part is that as we were moving to a different hotel, the manager told me that they would provide a refund the next day( I did not even ask for this but they brought it up). The next day comes and they refuse as it was 'out of their control'. What if the explosion happened as we were walking by to enter the room? This should be looked into legally!
