Mercure Gloucester Bowden Hall Hotel

Nice place nice grounds and quite comfortable. For my purposes it’s in a good location too

Went to this hotel in Feb for my birthday. Booked with Secret Escapes. The outside looks lovely, until you get inside. I found it quite tatty and worn looking. The rooms were squeezed in together. Breakfast was ok, but the whole dining experience was dreadful. First we had a free cocktail, served by an arrogant barman who basically said there was one choice of cocktail espresso martini which I dislike, never mind I thought the evening meal will probably make up for it. I was served the worst steak I had ever eaten, it was apparently rib eye it was so overcooked and thin, I could not cut it! My partner had burger and chips which was mediocre and warm. I sent mine back and was told to choose soething else. So I chose a thai noodle dish, it was a bowl of salty peanuts with a few prawns!! Disgusting... so I didnt have any food. Next eve after I had a word with the young lad on receotion, he assured me tonights meal woul be better. We both opted for pizza, a meal that I would not normally eat at a hotel but it seemed like the safest option. The waitress fussed I was offered a free glass of wine because of last nights fiasco. The pizzas were like you would buy in Iceland frozen foods... Disappointed to say the least. I complained to secret escapes and they sent me a patronising email about people having different tastes and cultures! Have no idea what that was to do with it!

We booked a lakeside pod for a family celebration of three birthdays. We were delighted with the overall experience, from start to finish everything ran like clockwork. The service by the very friendly helpful waiters was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious. Everything was thought of, we didn’t have to ask for anything as the service was exceptional. The pods are beautiful and we all loved the overall experience of being together in a secluded environment away from a busy restaurant atmosphere. We cannot wait to return and thank everyone for a superb evening which our whole party thoroughly enjoyed. Would highly recommend booking this venue.

Stayed here with the family. Beautiful hotel. Staff were attentive. Food was great and room was comfortable and perfect for our family. The grounds were lovely for the kids to run around in. We went to the Cotswolds wildlife park which was only 30 mins away. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless and reasonably up to date. The lounge was attractive with an excellent mural at one end. Breakfast was buffet style with a good range of food. The absence of standard hotel formulaic design was what attracted us to it and the semi-rural location ensured that it was quiet at night.
